I learned last weekend to make sure you know the limitations of your equipment. I was whittling and trusted my cut proof gloves a little too much. Won’t make that mistake again, ha.

Knife used was a BeaverCraft whittling knife. hockey tape added to the handle for comfort. It gets very very sharp.

Man, I'm ashamed to admit that I've bloodlet myself on numerous occasions. Hell, I almost removed my strong-hand index finger, with a TOPS "Pasayten Lite Traveler", while drawing it from the sheath with my weak hand.

As my "handle" might suggest, I often find myself using sharp tools at remote Farms and Ranches, and all "Alone". After a few "incidents", I opted to score myself some "No Cry" cut gloves. I reckon that they've saved my bacon on a few occasions...

They're definitely more cut-resistant than "proof", sorry about your hand. I cut through an cut glove with relative ease i dont remember what A rating it was, but the chart lists them from A1-A9, if i were to guess it was probably in the 3 to 5 range. They're suppose to mitigate or minimize a cut from accidental swipes, taps, and "kisses" not prevent, or even resist full on cuts

There is no such thing as cut proof. When I was looking for cut resistant gloves I found a chart that showed Kevlar is good to 4 pounds of pressure, spectra is good to 7 lbs and X11 is good to 11 lbs. Not much when you think of how little surface area the blade actually touches. Of course all materials deteriorate with age and UV exposure.

Yeah, this was an A4 rating.

Yep. My worst injury was due to "safety" equipment, too. Thankfully, I only needed half as many stitches. Same hand, nearly identical location, right where it could serve as an immediate reminder for decades now. Hopefully the soreness doesn't keep you from sleeping and it heals up fast.

Effing hell.......that's horrid!! 🫣

I hope you heal quick and painlessly as possible.

I've found gloves with cut ratings above ansi 3 to be not as "grippy" .

And not being able to safely handle stainless because you cannot grip it, is a greater hazard.

Don't put yourself in front of a sharp edge.😉
