Just a headsup for you, Andy. I'm hoping to have Miss Lilly and her dad, Rick join us at the Guild meeting in Feb. She'll have something to show you. Has to do with things that grow on trees.
They braved the monsoons Sat morning to get a little forging in and a little shop time to install handles. Actually the weather broke just right and the afternoon was made for hot work. I will have to play with the pics a bit to get them postable (maybe later this week).
Did get the scales on the small B/T she forged at TR that you finished ground for her. Used some handle material she got off the ITH table. All good. For me this is what TR is ALL about.

Having trouble getting pics to stick. These are the ones Miss Lilly worked on Sat. the blacksmith knife she did in full while here. The small bird/trout she forged at TR with Paul Brach with Andy doing the final grind (one of many he did during the event). The handle material is from off the ITH table at TR. She learned a little about handle installation, drilling, pinning, and epoxy. Hopes to have the handle shaped and finished by the Guild meeting. She has another much larger blade, trailing point hunter she did at TR that the rest of the material will go on (next visit). Oh, forgot to mention, she's only 12.

Thats cool. Folks, Carl has been helping to interest kids in knifemaking more than any other person I know. I know he was giddy, teaching Lily.

Finally got them to stick. And yes....this makes me a happy and blessed man.

Read the first post while browsing with mild interest. Then that little additional information gets added and it becomes totally awesome. Thanks!

She wanted to do a "leaf" after I told her I'd just been over to Andy's and shown him a few steps in how to forge them out. I showed her what I like to do with them and the game was on! She did really well on her first leaf, her dad was right there to help hold things when needed. But, mostly just stood there and watched (that's a hard thing to do for any of us).

You're not that far away Heat-treat. You are welcome to come on up to Trackrock this spring and watch Lilly and other youngun's work magic with a hammer. You will get to visit with a lot of the guys that post here. More and more of them show up every event. It's really fun to watch them struggle with hammer & tongs when these kids make it look so easy.
