Fairbairn-Sykes for Mall Ninjas

When I was about sixteen or so, back in the 1960s, knockoffs of the commando dagger were everywhere. If you looked in a magazine, if you went to a novelty or an army-navy store, there they were. I had one, and I suspect the quality was substantially worse than even the Rambo junk that followed.

Tonight, after sorting through the mail, I went through a couple of catalogs. In BudK--the king of this sort of thing--not even a hint of this knife. Kennesaw was a step up but still lower end, and a fair number of fantasy blades. But here, too, no F-S.

Just wondering what happened. Change in fashion? If so, what's the equivalent knife today (that is, a young guy's fantasy blade, rather than a practical tool)?
 
My bad. I just noticed in the back of Kennesaw cutlery a real British Commando Knife. Just a bit north of $30. Must be the real thing.

Ah, the good old days.
 
I'm not sure I understand the question, I do know where you can get a fairbairn-sykes fighting knife that seems to be of pretty decent quality and 1095 steel.I can send the link in a message if you want.
 
Sorry if I wasn't clear. The point I was making was simply that when I was a young mall ninja decades ago, the FS knife was hot. But it seems to have disappeared now.

Ah, ok I would say the current equivalent is the kukri.

All the kids around here seem to be balisong nuts anymore. For my money, that would seem to be the newest trend. (Not that it's new or anything, but they don't know that.)
 
What, nobody's said "Besh wedge" yet? (That's a joke. It's trendy, but even some of the more sophisticated knuts I know still haven't heard of it.)
 
That is a great pic!(the chimp) What a hoot. Try and look for CAS Hanwei for the FS they sell. Supposedly a really nice one and razor sharp. keepem sharp
