Fairly cheap hatchet/tomahawk?

I'm going camping next week, and for the first time I want to actually cut my own wood (opposed to buying it) and I want a decent hatchet/tomahawk that's under 35$ if at all possible. I was looking at the Cold Steel Frontier Hawk, but wasn't sure if it would be practical. Are tomahawks good for minor chopping or only good for throwing? (new to this kind of stuff) Thanks in advance!

Tomahawks are usually pretty lightweight, especially the classic kind fitting onto a wood handle. They work great for small wood - kindling, branches, etc. - but you definitely won't want to chop up a log with one.

I'm definitely no expert but for what your looking to do (chop wood?) and at that price, you might look up the Estwing Sportsman Axe.

They usually sell for less than $35, not sure I'd try throwing it though.

There's definitely better choices - if your feeling spendy...

Hit the used tool places, flea market, antique store, thrift store or yard sale and buy you an American made hatchet. Get you a file while your at it to sharpen it and your good to go.
I would recommend you stay away from hardware stores and the junk that they sell.

If you are looking for a hawk, try the Cold Steel Rifleman's hawk. At 36 oz. it's a beast. I use mine frequently for cutting smaller diameter (6-10 inch) trees.

Thank you to all, I would be useing it just for cutting down small branches and maybe making some tent stakes, think ill go with the rifleman or the pipe hawk
