fake ARK?

No, I haven't heard of any.

Doesn't mean there aren't any but, if I were a knife counterfeiter, I'd choose a more expensive and popular knife - like the Yojimbo - to copy.

Why do you ask? Do you have one that you think is fake? If so, provides some pics so the experts greater than I can assess it.

I picked it up from a source that, after the fact, I found out had sold a fake Spyderco in the past. Actually, I knew he had done that at one time, but had forgotten about the incident. It was sold to me as "new no box" (his exact words) which caught my attention, but it was not enough of a red flag for me as many people lose boxes. Turns out that the fake Spyderco he sold before was sold the same way, and that's what ultimately got me to sit up and question this one. So...

I have looked online everywhere and found nothing regarding a cloned ARK. I have looked all over the Internet, here, and on the Spyderco forum (and more specifically in the counterfeits thread) and nobody has ever mentioned a cloned ARK so far that I can see. Like you, I agree that it does not make a great candidate for cloning because of its fairly low cost and popularity (it's an SE BTW), but I want to be sure of course.

I am attaching two pics just to get a consensus, but it occurred to me that there is a simple conclusive test that I can do myself. Let it sit in water for a few days--it's supposed to be H1. That should tell the story.

Sounds like you have good reason for concern and sounds like you have a good plan to test its authenticity. Let us know how your test goes.

FWIW, I took a look at a variety of pics of legit Arks on the Net and I can't see any obvious differences between them and yours to indicate that yours might be a fake.

That might work, but 420J2 would probably pass that test. I haven't seen any fakes, but that doesn't mean a thing.

Today, after a week and taking Danke42's suggestion to use salt water, I am happy to report that there is not so much as a speck of patina or surface rust anywhere on the knife. Thankfully, it looks like this one is the real deal.
