Has anybody here ever seen a fake benchmade 940-2? I recently won one on ebay for around 120 and I was just wondering if anybody has ever received a fake 940-2. I have seen fake 940-1s, but I have never seen any fake 940-2s since they are relatively new. The seller is accepting returns after 14 days, so when I get it within the next few days I just wanted to know what I should inspect it to see if it is fake. What red flags have you seen on fake benchmades? Thank you and sorry if this is a stupid question. I have only owned spydercos before and 1 griptilian so I am pretty new to benchmade.

Personally, I would never have peace of mind if I even thought for a second that a knife I bought may be a fake. Fakes are getting harder and harder to distinguish any more. It cannot be said enough that it is worth the peace of mind by buying from reputable dealers or on the exchange here. That said, I haven't seen a fake 940-2 yet, but you never know.

If it was used and sold as such, 120 would be reasonable. If it's marketed as new, then there is no way the seller is making much profit by taking a $50 loss under what reputable sites are selling. Red Flag #1: it's on eBay. Red Flag #2: it is significantly cheaper than what you would expect, as in nobody gives you a 30% discount for the fun of it. Fakes are coming out faster and faster and harder to spot, so your best bet is to actually read a few threads on spotting fakes and then post some pics here when you get it in hand.

My first "decent" production knife was actually the 940-2, I purchased it from Amazon and was fulfilled by Chicago Cutlery. The knife was promised to me on a certain date, obviously that didn't happen for whatever kind of shipping issues. So I first call up Chicago Cutlery to see what the deal was since its "fulfilled" by them. They had no records of my invoice number, so I call amazon and straighten all that out, but in the meantime as I'm on the phone with one of the representatives (at Amazon) she told me the main cause of the knife being late was because it was "coming from over seas" that really peaked my interest and was a HUGE red flag to me as we all know BM is USA made, correct? SO I immediately called Benchmade and was able to get Corrines email (she told me on the phone there was a 5% chance it was a fake because like you said the 940-2 are relatively new), was able to send her pictures of the knife (once received) so she could verify its authenticity and I was a happy camper. I guess what I took from it all..either order from the company directly or deal with a member here on Bladeforums, that way you'll hopefully never have to deal with what I went through or what your going through now..I hope this helps and I apologize for making it so lengthy.

PS. I highly doubt you have a fake.

Just post some pics. There's a lot of eyes here and you'll be able to get a solid answer.

I can understand if it was an extremely rare piece and you wanted to jump on it before it sold (at the same time, it still wouldn't be a good idea without knowing first) but if you had any doubts; Why would you buy it?

Thanks you all for all the replies. To awnser the question on why I bought it, well I have been watching 940-2s for a while on eBay for about a month now and I see that right at the last second there is always someone that bids really high and snipes the knife. I was watching this knife (that was marketed as new) and I assumed it would go for about 150 so I thought what the hell and put a bid on it for around 120 just for the heck of it, but I thought I would get outbid right away. I came back after the action and was thrilled that I won and then I went to bed last night. Then I layed awake worrying I might have just been dooped. :/. Then I woke up and made this thread. :). when I get the knife I'll post pics. The seller has a 14 day return window so I think it's legit but who knows. Thanks for the replies and I will be sure to post pics.
