Last month at a local gun show I traded for a lot of knives from a guy. I should have figured something was up, cause it seemed 2 good 2 be true! I ended up with 54 knives for about $250 in ammo. I was walking around with a sign stating I had ammo to trade and he hit me up with his deal. While cataloging everything to resell it on eBay I found I got a few fakes or counterfeit knives. I being stupid didn't get the guy's name or number and I'm not sure if he will be at the next gun show. The fakes I got are from Benchmade & Cold Steel. I did get some other good knives and all are new in box. I won't have any problem getting my money back from the real ones that I got I just need some help, can I sell these fake knives anywhere even if I disclose what they are? Or am I stuck with them? I don't want to trick anyone nor do I want any legal trouble. Thanks in advance for the help.

How far away from legal trouble do you want to stay? ;) Selling items that have other companies' logos on them is likely illegal, even if you disclose in the ad copy that they're fakes.

And ebay is currently very worried about fakes due to a huge European court judgment against the online auction company for not vetting fakes on its site.

Post pics.

Let's say you buy a hot dog at one of those street carts. You pay with a $100 bill; you get 4 $20's and some smaller bills back.

Later, you notice the $20's are counterfeit. The guy and his cart are long gone.

Would you knowingly pass the $20's on to someone else?

I don't think you could even sell them as conversation pieces marked "counterfeit" legally.

I wouldn't sell a counterfeit. You are just the victim of a crime, essentially. Sorry.

only problem is the designs themselves might be legally protected through patent or copyright or trademark.

I got a couple of these:

Differences from original:
the blade stop is the only thing that gives it away, the original goes through the G10, this one doesn´t. Lots of differences here's a few I noticed.
- back spacer - as mentioned above
- weird Benchmade logotype
- lack of the screw over main pivot
- hollow grind (not flat)
- thumbdisk doesn't align well with upper curve of the blade

And a few of these;

On the fake strikers the serration pattern is also a giveaway- compare the original and the counterfeit side by side and the differences are quite noticeable.

I didn't look that close when I was going through the box, and honestly I don't think the guy even knew what he had. I got a Bark River Prototype in the deal too, I'm keeping that one. It was a mix of folders and fixed blades and I was more focused on the fixed end since that's what I like. I figure the group is worth between $500-600 without the fakes in there. So it still was a good deal for me.
