At this point I would assume that any Raven not found in the wild at a reasonable price is a fake. There's just no way to be sure. I think fakes are much more common than people realize. There is tremendous incentive to fake them and the fakes have become indistinguishable.

Agree with Square Peg. There were several that came on ebay in the last week or so that I looked at and something just didn't seem right about them. Never owned one but they just didn't jive with some of the other pictures I've seen. Hope for your sake they're legit. Might try hosting images on imgur and pasting the bbcode into your post here.

If I was a collector of etched axes I would stay away from any that had the surface enhanced, such as through polishing, bluing ect.
I also see a lot of highly suspect etches and I usually stop short of calling them out but buyer beware.

I always thought the fuss over the Black Raven axe was silly, and now that there are fakes out there it is even more silly to waste time and money on them. If you want to be the best sort of axe collector then just pick up whatever axes you trip across at junk-shops and yard-sales for one or two dollars each and be happy with those, clean them up and use them. If you have to go after things that are trendy and fashionable for the "me too" club then I don't want to know you.

Thanks for the really good advice.
