Hello all,

I'm new to Emerson knives, I've heard and read about them but never owned one. After buying a user CQC-13 (which is getting a spa treatment right now) and trading for the CQC-11 I have in my pocket I now have a Super Commander on the way and always have my eye open for a deal on an UBR Commander (yes Virgina, size does matter).

I read the comment on Emersons website about being careful about buying fake knives and that they had had fakes come in for warranty work and had to tell the customer that they had a fake.

Anyone on here ever seen a fake Emerson? Can anyone give me some points to look for that would be common in the fakes that have popped up? Are there some models that are more prone to being copied than others?

Thanks,
Jester60

I would assume that since the most well recognized currently produced models by Emerson are the Commander and the cqc7 that if you see a fake it will probably be one of those. The other choice would likely be the SOFCK.

So far the only Emerson the Chinese have chosen to fake is the Commander. The ones I've seen have all used Torx screws instead of the Phillip's (+) screws Emerson uses. All the fakes I've seen have been on eBay and have even included a faked box. Buy from reputable dealers and from trusted folks on forums and you will be OK.

I've seen knockoff Emerson karambits too, but it's been a while. If I recall, there was something about the clip: I don't think it's reversible on the Chinese fakes.

I got had last year on a fake commander. there is a good site that is linked on the EKI site that has info on the fake commanders. Look out for Torx screws, plastic backspacers, if there is only one ball detent or not, the logo being off center as well. Also the paperwork and cardboard boxes are being counterfeited as well.

I had to sharpen a Emerson Commander fake for a client. The liners on the fakes are always really polished/shiny, unlike the original Emerson. I had to tell him, " Your knife was not made by Emerson." It kinda bummed him out, because it was a gift from a friend.

My son got one of these while in Iraq for $5.00. So easy to tell, nothing is right about it.
