Has anyone come across any knockoff GECs?

With the demand and crazy second market prices...seems inevitable.

Sorry if this has been posted before. (This might be considered a GBU thread, but it’s not feedback.)

There are plenty of modified ones out there but I can't recall ever coming across a fake.

I saw a fake GEC earlier this year.
It was a crappy gas station jack knife with "Great Eastern Cutlery" PRINTED (not stamped) on the tang.
Obvious fake. I contacted the seller and he promptly took the knife off the market. He claimed he didn't know it was fake.

Ugh. I could see it happening, but hopefully a well done fake traditional is not cost effective for the scoundrels to try.

Wow! I hadn't seen or heard of any until now. That's wild.

What pattern? What did it look like?

With these traditionals becoming more and more popular, I could see this happening...fake a tube/sticker, etch “Northfield” 1 of 10 onto a cheap stockman, wrap in wax paper, and list as a “rare” model.

I’m sure there are plenty of non-collectors out there that would bite.

I don't remember the pattern, but it was a single clip point. There were no identifying marks on the knife except the "Great Eastern Cutlery" print on the tang. If I remember correctly, the etch wasn't even centered or aligned. Now I wish I'd saved a picture of it, but at the time I just wanted it removed before some poor fool bid on it.

Seems like a knock off GEC would only fool people not very familiar with knives or GECs. Like, a person buying a present for somebody that was into knives and had heard that person talking about 'GEC knives'.

If some company out there could make fake GECs that would fool people that hang out here then they should probably consider just making their own brand of slipjoints because they would probably sell like hotcakes.

So frustrated with my oversized pics. Anyhow, this was on the bay a few years ago. It was a cheap kickback clip. Blue covers. Can't get the full knife pics to post, sorry. Fakes are out there, but one should be able to tell the difference, right away.

Back in February, this thing was listed as a Great Eastern Cutlery Knife...

I have ZERO sympathy for the new owner :D

Yes, the one I saw was very similar to that, with just the company name etched on the tang. Easily spotted fake.

It will happen, just a matter of time. Sometimes it seems there are more fake Case Tested knives out there on the market than real ones. I'm leary to buy anything without seeing/handling it in person first.
