Absolutely the old fake-a-roo. Instantly tell by the pivot screw......among other tells.

BTW, a crime both literally and figuratively.

You just can't fix stupid!

Yeah, but a seller of those "Vanguards" told me sometime ago that they were a super well built knife at a much better price than a real Buck! ;) I don't recall where these pictures came from (or I'd give credit to the taker) but here's one of those "super well built" knives.

Any takers??

Hello to everyone.
Here you may see some photos with the fake copy of Buck 192 Vanguard .
My Russian colleagues have bought this knife especially for research on the matter of quality of that Chinese fake.
The price is approx. 17 USD.
As you can see , this knife can easily be bended by hands without any serious efforts.
It is an absolutely imposible event with the original Buck 192 Vanguard.
The handle rod is made of absolute soft metal and poorly welded to an edge etc.
The blade is made of a steel kinda like 440A, no one wants to do a special chemical analysis for this so-called "product attempt".
Do not buy those cheapest copies if you do not want to be disappointed.

What about the Buck Forum hosting inquiries from vendors regarding the authenticity of Buck knives. "Somebody tells you it is a fake? Inquire here for verification!" Maybe a sticky here. Target sends in a photo and members wrestle out an opinion is my thought. Useful, workable, allowed by forum rules? Just a thought that a resource for folk might get more done than harsh words or reporting the fakes... Are all these fake Buck vendors bad actors? Are some victims themselves?

Some of them are innocent victims of their own ignorance regarding the Buck brand.

A couple of years ago, a seller on the bay had some "Buck Strider" fixed blades for sale at a really good (too good actually) price. Due to my own ignorance of that line, I jumped on two of them. While they were still in route to me, I got a message from the seller saying that he had found out that they were fakes. While I was reading his message another e-mail appeared from PayPal telling me that he had refunded my payment. He didn't even want me to send them back to him, I still have them both in my fake collection.

I think a more proactive approach would be required, like politely contacting the sellers to inform them that their goods are of dubious origin. The sheer volume of fakes out there would make this a huge job, and the Bay won't stop a listing unless the MFG contacts them. Most sellers, especially those that are not Buck savvy are probably unaware of this forums existence.

I've done that more times than I can count with very mixed results. Sometimes I get a positive reply and the listings have been either removed or revised. Other times, I've been told to go to hell and to mind my own business.

I even had one seller out of China put a bunch of ancient Chinese curses on me!

Dear Mr. Dave
Excuse me please , but I have started that thread with those photos of fake made of Buck 192.
I had called the thread "Fake is fake without any doubt , it was half of the year ago or a bit more.
Those photos are from some my knife buddies from our knife forums in the RF.

Yes! Thanks, I didn't know how to find the original thread or I would have just put in a link to it.

Seller had a fake Buck offered. I explained to the seller that they had a fake knife and showed her which knife it was a fake of. I offered the help of this forum whenever there was a question regarding a Buck knife. Her response:

"THANKS MUCH! I will use this in the future. I knew there should be someplace to go but couldn't find it. Thanks so much. I've always enjoyed pocket knives. Now that I'm to old to lift and move big stuff around, I do enjoy dabbling with them. I'm no expert as you can tell; this will help. I immediately changed the listing to generic knife and blurred the name so no one will get the wrong idea. It's hard to find USA made knives (or anything else) now days. Maybe that will change soon after the Nov election. Thanks again for your help."

Refreshing response and I congratulated her.

Name and item withheld by me, oregon.
