Fake Kabar Cleaver??

I didn't realize that Kabar made kitchen cutlery until I found a 12 knife Steak Knife set at a garage sale.

Now, looking around on fleebay I found the following "Kabar" cleaver. I think it "may" be a fake due to the "Kabar" on the blade - to me it looks like it was put on the knife with a little bitty punch or with an electric etching device. At least I have never seen Kabar being so sloppily applied. Opinions?

And some weird blemish at the upper ricasso position

Yep - looks just like the one I found. I also see where Mr. Levine said that there was inadequate documentation available to make a decision either way.:(

Maybe toooj or officialkabar knows.

zzyzzogeton,

Real KA-BAR Cleaver. In the 1950s-60s...maybe up to the 1970s.
We don't have a lot of documentation on the Kitchen knives of that period. I'll sort through our collection and see about item numbers.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, toooj. I like part numbers. :)

Now I'm glad I took a chance and put the minimum bid on it. No one else bid on it and I got it. :D

I think it will display well in an old barn wood frame until I wear out the other 9 cleavers I have ( my grandfather also ran the local slaughter plant/meat locker, so we have a LOT of old cleavers and butcher knives) and need to use it as a back-up.
