i just bought a all black kershaw leek at walmart. unLike other leeks ive own this one doesnt have the date stamp on the blade. It just says Kai patented made in usa. Ive heard rumors that these are knockoff knives. is this true? the construction is still great. knife works fine and is sharp. Also all my other leeks have liner locks. this has frame lock. paid 40 dollars.

Not fake. Newer Kershaws do not have a date on the blade.

And, the Leek is a really nice knife. Congrats!

^^^This. As for liner versus frame lock, Kershaw/KAI uses both on different versions of the Leek. Those with aluminum or G10 scales are liner locks, those with stainless steel are frame locks.

whew. thanx guys. I knew you guys would know. I absolutly love the knive . Sharpest knife ive owned sofar.

Lucky... the walmarts in my area (Ontario,Canada) sell a lot of crappy knives

at least you guys have Walmart...

Leek is really nice, slight slicer. Wasn't my thing though. I sold my leek in 2 months when getting it. I think Random Leek might be better for me though :D

This is the response i got from KERSHAW;;;;;;; Due to new Homeland Security laws placed into effect in the summer of 2009 we removed all stamping from the knives. This helps speed up the import and export of our products from our factories and suppliers to us and from us to our international customers. It also alleviates a lot of the paper work for customs. It was purely done for business reasons and ease of transport. We stopped stamping the date on all of our knives in July 2009. So no your knife is not a knock off and I’m sorry if this is an inconvience.

Wow.

Now that's sad. Just unbelievably, mind-bogglingly sad. All those confusing marks on the knife are just too complicated for the gate-keepers, apparently.

You're not kidding, mystery steel Gerber-Land up here. When I go down South to visit family, I make a point of checking out the Walmart sporting goods section.

Can someone explain this to me :o

Yah this makes it sound like Kershaws are imported and then just assembled or something? Or perhaps that is importing and exporting some of USA made stuff to other countries and their few Chinese made knives being imported in?
