Fake or Real?????

One important piece of information in determining the authenticity of a knife is - Where did you buy it from?

And I wouldn't expect you to receive any hateful comments, even if it is fake. 🙂

I bought it from a gun show. I'm thinking it's fake based off a YouTube video I saw with the same knife after I posted this. The handle screws are different and there is no USA marking underneath the logo on the sheath. Gonna have to file a claim through my bank on Monday to get my money back. Got taken for $140:( still open to opinions in case I'm wrong.

I was just looking at the same knife at Knifecenter, a reliable source. And you're right about the screws. The screws on your knife are flathead, and the one pictured on Knifecenter has button head screws.

Between the screws, where you bought it from, and the price, I'm thinking fake as well.

The one pictured at Knifecenter doesn't have "USA" under the logo on the sheath.

Hopefully you get your money back.

I'd never buy a knife from a gun show. The best gun show in my state is held right across the street from my house and I get free access because of my membership with my local range. Been several times and the knife tables in there scream ebay special to me. Lots of cheap cheap stuff with some "high end" name knives mixed in which makes me think cheap knockoff.

Over the past ten years or so, the quality of knives at my local gun show have really gone down.

Yes, you do find an occasional good knife but the dealers think they have gold and price them accordingly. Many times they are pretty much the same price, new or used.

Did it come with the box? Any pictures of that both inside and out?
Might want to use the "report" button to ask a Mod to move this to
the Benchmade subforum where a BM Rep will often help ID fakes.

I've purchased knives before at gun shows. The Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly, Va. is one of my favorites. The bigger gun shows have some genuine dealers selling knives. It's great to handle the the knife to check centering and lock up etc.

I looked on a well-known Chinese website that is notorious for selling counterfeit knives. I found counterfeit Benchmade 133 Infidels being sold on that site, bearing a false "Benchmade" logo. Although the pictures provided by the vendor on that site do not show the screw side of the handle, there are pics posted by a reviewer, and in one of the pics it's clear that one of the handle screws is a flat-head screw (the view of the other screw is obstructed).

How do I know the knives are counterfeit? Well, 1. They're being sold on that site. And 2. The price is under $30.

Other than the flat-head screw, the knives look identical to the genuine article. Even the sheath is identical. Packaged in black boxes with the "Benchmade" name and logos in silver.

Buyers beware. There are scumbags out there selling counterfeits as the real deal.

Yeah my girlfriend at the time (now wife) bought me a ZT620CF from that show when we went there on a date.

IDK.

The 1st 2 knives of any value that I ever purchased I bought at a gun show were a Kershaw Shallot 1840CKT and a Spyderco Manix 2 XL. I've also purchased a cheap $5 Chinese made CA-legal auto at a gun show too, because it was cheap and because I thought it was "cute."

The key is that you need to know what is it is that you're buying and, if in doubt, just say NO!

FWIW, in this day and age, there is NO excuse for unintentionally buying a "fake" unless you fail to take proper precautions against it by knowing what you are buying by doing proper research about the product, which you can do on the spot by pulling out your phone and Googling the product.

The other thing is that here in CA, there are hardly any guns available to buy at a gun store (let alone at a gun show) anymore nor is there much ammo available for sale at those places either.

So, all that you can really spend your $ on at a gun show in CA now (apart from the price of admission) are just knives, firearms/shooting accessories/supplies, novelty items and beef jerky, which is why I haven't bothered going to a gun show for over a year.

LOL! ;)

We are at Rolex-like market now where "buy the seller" is the only thing that can help. Don't buy prices ( yes, we all love "knife deals") just choose one of the well known knife specialty sellers and stick to them, they won't have the best price on everything, but you'll help keep a knife dealer in business.

Else we will all end up buying only the knives that Amazon deems adequate/safe and even then some of those will be fakes.
