I asked the seller for better pictures, especially of line in handle, he said he had a bad camera and would not send or post any more pictures.
So fakes or not? Ebay item #230232690878, seems strange to me that all have the same defect.

Whew, I was nervous to click on this thread. :D Sorry I forgot where I was :D

I dont think they would be fake, but they sure look like lunch box special?

The lines down the sides look like the lines from when the phenolic is molded.
I had a pic here somewhere...????? They appear to not have been buffed down.

...I agree Jim...I also sent a message to the seller asking for some better pics of the handles but haven't heard from him yet...We'll see...:)

Mirror finished.
Would make a good steak knife set if they weren't "cracked".
"No more pics" he says? I wouldn't bid. But that's just me.

...Just got a reply from the seller:...

Darryl these pictures are the best that I could get with my camera. I do NOT think that these lines are supposed to be there. I would say that they are pealing or cracking like I said in the auction. I again don't believe these are supposed to be there. Also, just like I said in the updated version of the auction, a dealer told me that the handles need to be refirbished. Sorry, hope that helps.

I can't tell...Are they cracked down to the tang??? Or is it just unbuffed casting flash that can be sanded, buffed, and polished???

...Or is it something that the San Diego Police have an open file on???...

You know, even if deeply cracked, they could be filled in and rebuffed...

What model are they anyway???

...They look like 102's and 105's maybe. The seller said they are all deeply cracked and in some cases loose. He also sounds like he really isn't into knives at all. I wonder if those phenolic handles could ever be made to look good without totally replacing them...

I now wonder what Buck would charge to replace all the handles? Warranty?
James,
Just looked it up on website:The Buck Knives 4-Ever Warranty is pretty much what it says. A Buck Knife is built to last. But if for some reason, your Buck is defective due to materials or workmanship, you can return it to us for repair. No matter where you bought it.

We will repair your knife, including parts, labor and or replacement with a new knife at our discretion. Keep in mind, repair is not always possible or practical. We will replace your knife with the same or one that is comparable if your knife is no longer available. If you want your old knife back no-matter-what, note that when you send the knife to us.
Handles cracking due to age and storage ought to fit, IF they are not fakes.

buck did experment with injection molded handles...
to my knolage they did NOT use custom blades...
i have one of the few that turned out acceptal at post falls getting a coa now..
verry few of the injection molded turned out and at first glance that is what i thought i was looking at..
but enlargeing to 150%
i am in agree ment that these are NOT normanl at all and are not the injection molded ones...
if you buy these i would not send them to post falls..
there is likely no warrenty but we can see what Joe says..

I certainly have no idea as to what the cracks in the handles are; however, I can assure you that this seller is reputable and trustworthy as all get out. I recently made a purchase from him in excess of $500 for a David Yellowhorse custom, and for some reason the PayPal payment required almost 10 days to clear the bank. This seller actually went ahead and sent the item priority mail, and I received the knife two days before the payment cleared. He has also been listing quite a few other Yellowhorse knives the past few weeks. From my correspondence with him regarding my purchase, I agree that he is not very knowledgeable about knives, but I don't think he is knowingly attempting to sell anything that may be fake. As I recall, the seller is an attorney; he may be selling an estate collection for a client. Hope this information helps an potentially interested buyer.

These sentences here say alot! They may not fix them...

Additionally, some one may have dumpster-dove and got these out after the integrity of the handles were factory-tested in R-n-D or Qualiy-Control. Then burden Buck on a warranty loophole? C'mon guys. What is it......8 identical knives all damaged the same way.?.??? Whats that tell ya'?
Me? Cough twice and pass............. or buy them for the blades and have them re-built with your handle choice... and pay whomever for the upgrade.

Dave

...Like my "namesake" Tin Sue mentioned, I also don't believe this seller is trying to pull anything on anyone. He may have just come across these knives in a bulk sale or something and wishes to sell 'em out. He sorely wishes he could take better pictures as well. I kina wish I was more into fixed blades as I'd maybe like to try to "mangle" 'em into something nice looking again. I've had a couple of messages from the seller since my first inquiry and he really does sound sincere...and if ya know me at all...ya know that I don't trust anyone...:p......:D

Darryl-
I was not taking issue with the 'seller' at all. You have the right idea if you want to play, or mangle, with rolliing your own. My opinion is to leave the Buck factory and employees outta this one rather than try to scam some "warranty" fix loophole with some obviously mistreated knives.......all 102BPs.....with the same damage..........I still think something akin to Buck QC suspecting a batch of bad phenolic and testing the run at random. Those BPs ain't that common for 8 to look like that. Sure the guy can sell 'em ,no worries :)

Dave

...I knew ya wasn't takin' issue with the seller all along Dave and I agree with what ya said 100%. I have always have a hard ( Buck Wood ) :p time with the guys selling beatup 'ol Bucks in online auctions and actually saying that "...you can always get this busted blade or handle fixed by Buck under their Lifetime warranty." If I was more into fixed blades I might have been interested in these myself...Hell...with a little work I coulda easily made 'em look worse than they are now...LMBO...:eek::p

Roger that!!! Remember Joe saying that those phenolic handles were best removed by crushing them in a vise??? I suppose you could drill out the pin (rub it on your jeans!) and then crush the grip, and finally make up a nice grip (or 8) for it...

But that's a lot of work for a set of steak knives... :(

...Exactly what I was thinkin' Trax. I remember Joe sayin' that. I'd take on the leather disc's or the wood sided full-tang knives but I think those phenolics would really be an adventure...LOL...:p
