Hey guys I recently purchased a cold steel oss from eBay and I love it but two of my friends have the same knife and the words ‘oss and cold steel’ are one the same side of the blade where mine just says OSS on one side and cold steel aus 8a in the other and my secure ex sheath does not have wording and theirs has the words ‘secure ex’ on them I’ve attached pics hopefully it’s real as I like the sub hilt! Thanks all.

I don't own this particular knife but I own over 60 CS products and this looks 110% legit to me! I may be wrong bud, but I'm fairly confident that it's real guy. Check out the OSS video brother!

It wouldn’t be the first time cold steel changed the locations of their stamps on their knives.

Hey guys I just saw a review on YouTube and the placing of the text was the same as mine so that’s a relief and wow that’s crazy I’m surprised the blade did not snap! I know what to carry if a water buffalo comes into my house now!

They did make a lot of knives in China for a year or two before going to Taiwan

The OSS was never made in China that I know of. The Chinese blades were when Cold Steel switched from Carbon V to Japanese SK-5 on the big Bowies.

Not sure about the OSS in particular, but I know many of the models from 2007 that were Krupp 4116 were from China, including the Peace Keeper daggers and Kobun.

The OSS has a few different tang stamps (that I know of - could be more ?), all of the below tang stamps I have seen on the bay.

OSS / COLD STEEL CARBON V USA

OSS (with TM) AUS8A / COLD STEEL TAIWAN

OSS (No TM) / COLD STEEL MADE IN TAIWAN

OSS (with TM) / COLD STEEL CHINA

OSS (with TM) VG-1 SAN MAI III / COLD STEEL JAPAN

OSS / COLDSTEEL (New step Logo) AUS 8A TAIWAN - I believe this is the newest most current version of the knife being sold today

Sorry, don't have years or steel or model numbers used. I do know that some years the sheath said ‘Secure Ex’ and other years did not.

Hope it helps

I have never seen one with China on the blade, though I think they did produce them in 2007 for one year only, using 4116, then switched to Japanese AUS 8A in 2008. In 2006 they were done in the venerable Carbon V. I still have a couple of these.

Hey mate could you please look at this pic of my OSS stamp to see if it’s a new step logo? Regards Hermit.

Wasn't the first RoC Taiwan...
OSS™ #38SS
made with something designated as 420 Sub Zero Quench?

What a regressive production cost saving nonsensical move that was,
Seems like two step backwards, from the earlier standard AUS specs...
