So I was looking at doing a trade for this knife with ManOfSteel through the exchange and he told me some one told him it wasn't real. So I offered to post the pictures here to see if we can find out. At first from the pictures he had posted I thought maybe the jimping was off but he has since sent me some photos from better angles that make it look real to me. So thoughts?

Jimping is off. Font is off. Texture of g10 is off. Compression lock cut out has a sharp transition instead of a smooth curve. The jimping on the liners above the stop pin is recessed, when it should be flush. I'm afraid that's a fake.

I was afraid of that I kinda thought the texture of the g10 looked funky but never noticed the other things. Thanks for the help. so sad.

Your para 3 is a solid fake.

They made look like a PM2

Fake as hell. The Para 3s have the new floating stop pin. That has the old style stop pin off the PM2. Plus everything else..

Um, the title says Para 3 but that looks like a PM2. Is the title wrong? Or just a fake of the wrong model?

So I thought ManOfSteel said it was a para 3 checked back and he said it was a para 2. So I must of read it wrong.

They all look the same to me on this tiny ass phone But yeah, that is a PM2 now that I zoom in. The cutout is wrong and the jimping defintly looks off like Bravo said.

A dead give away is the jimping on real Spydies climbs up the spine that goes over the pivot hole like a staircase. The fakes the jimping is always like this,

^^^^^ peaks straight up.

So I'm scared Mine might be a fake now. jimping seems to match this one. Looked at knife center pics of a stock and see what you mean my steps. Any one have thoughts on this? Bought it from a member on the exchange.

No need to worry. Your knife looks legit to me. It's a Para 2 right?

Thanks for chiming in, guys. I was afraid after 91bravo reached out to me by PM, that it was a fake. I traded for it a while back, unwittingly. I can only assume that the guy I traded with didn't know any better than I did. I'm just glad we caught it and I didn't unknowingly perpetuate the POS pass around.

Oh...here's another piece of info that I learned in this process. The holes for the clip threaded into the liners are larger on the fake than they are on a real PM2. I received a new clip and screws from Spyderco and tried to install it late last night. No way. Screws are way too small.

Check to see if it has the small "w" stamped in the edge of the liners on the underside, where your fingers wrap around. That might also be a way to tell fakes from genuine knives.

RE fake Para 3's, I don't think there are any out there...yet. The Para 3 is still too new to have fakes, I think.

Makes me wonder how many fakes I have owned in the past and never knew....

Honestly, that's not even a good fake. I've seen a fake before that it would only take a trained eye who is proficient with Spyderco models to catch it. S sharkattacksw is right with that notch on each side of the liners. I think this is where the pierce or plunge cut begins when cutting out the shape of the liner.

If you're ever in doubt, the surefire way to tell if your PM2 is real or fake is this notch. My real PM2 with aftermarket scales and pocket clip.

And they are always offset to each other.

Jimping always curves towards the handles as well

Thanks for posting pictures of the "w" notch. I wasn't sure what exactly to look for on that one.
