FAKE Spyderco Atlantic H1 from AMAZON??

Just bought this off Amazon with a gift card I got for my birthday. I think it's a fake and just sick about it. I've wanted one for a long time to use when fishing and finally pulled the trigger with the gift card.
Let me explain what I think I know and hopefully the experts here will tell me if I'm right or wrong.
Here are my concerns.

The pics show the box and a few things about it seem weird.
1. Notice the tape on each end. I've bought a few Spydies and don't remember any being taped closed. Anyone seen one taped closed on both ends?
2. The box was sealed but had no edgeucation paperwork or paperwork of any kind - Is that because of the H1 steel?
3. Bubble wrap bag the knife came in - Don't they all have clear plastic bags?
4. Box says printed in China. Really, I thought the knife was made in Seki-City but the box would be made in America? Okay, I checked my Elmax Mule, Manix II, and Ladybug and the boxes all say printed in China. Speaking of the Ladybug and the bag issue. My Ladybug is ZDP-189. It had a little rust on it the last time I used it and it was only carried on my keychain. Ironically, the Mule and Manix have clear bags and the Atlantic and Ladybug are the bubble wrap style. Could the Ladybug be a fake too?
5. The pivot point had quite a bit of oil yet the knife was pretty tough to open. The oil went all the way up to the spydie hole. I wiped off all the excess before I took the pics. Is this normal? Does this model need the exccessive oil at the pivot point to help the 'break in' period for opening it? Is it normally tight when brand new?

I need some help here to decide if I should contact Amazon and send the Spydie back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Another "I've read all about fake Spydercos on the internet and now I think I have one" post eh?

Spydercos come in bubble-wraped sleeves, in boxes made in China.
If you got one from a seller on eBay or Amazon, they may have taped the ends of the box as a precaution for shipping.
I got a Tenacious once from Amazon (by mistake actually, I ordered an H1 Salt) and it looked like someone may have handled it prior to shipping, but it wasn't a fake.

Looks real enough to me, but I'm no spydie expert. IIRC, you can send it to spyderco and they'll authenticate it for you, or tell you if it's a fake.

I've always had good luck ordering things from there. I hope you can get it sorted out brother.

Don't worry too hard just yet - read up a bit. Re: your concerns, (from my memory from past threads).

1. Taped box - an Amazon requirement if memory serves, (I believe Sal himself mentioned that in a post).
2. Not all come w/ paperwork - especially H1 in my experience.
3. No idea.
4. ALL Spyderco boxes are printed in China, (see the latest thread in the Spyderco forum).
5. Action may vary. I'm sure it will break in fine - all of mine have.

Again, all of the above, is from my reading/ experience w/ various Spyderco blades - feel free to vet.

No cause for alarm - Enjoy your new Salt.

I have seen the bubble wrap and the tape before. My recommendation is to check the spyderco website, look at screw patterns on the handle and a lot of times the graphics, like the H1, are darker on the fakes. There are some guys on here that are great at spotting fakes, maybe they will chime in. I'm not one of them but I have bought about 30 spydies, hopefully no fakes. PS my 2 cents is it's real.

Drop it in salt water for a few days and see if it starts to rust. If it's a fake it wont have H1 steel so that would be an easy test.

All of my Spydies that I can remember were in bubble wrap, and most have taped boxes (when ordered online). I have a couple Salts and they all had stiffer action before breaking in than other Spydies, who knows why.

From the fakes I've seen in the fake threads in the Spyderco subforum, the really good ones are usually more higher end models like the Military, Paramilitary and Southard.

Rasco, I'm not sure how to take that. At first glance I felt a little insulted, but moments later I realized I didn't really care. I'm not some kid who cruises the internet all the time and doesn't know anything. If you felt it was a redundant post, then why bother to respond?

I work a full time job and spend many hours in my shop doing something I enjoy, while pursuing many other outdoor adventures with my family. My money is hard earned and honest, so when/if I think I had an issue with a purchase, especially a Spyderco, I turned to the experts here for advice.

hmhendrick THANK YOU. antdog - Thanks as well, and good to see you on here.

THANK YOU to those who responded with helpful information.

It was not meant as an insult at all, or any disrespect towards you.
Just being on the forums every day has given me a sense of frustration when I see these posts. For every post like this, there will be another few guys who doubt the authenticity of their own Spydercos.

Not that you shouldn't ask.
I was just trying to make the point that if not for topics like this one, you probably would have been totally pleased with your new purchase and not had any doubts at all.

Thanks again everyone. Great info. I'll be out at the deer lease working in the next couple weeks in the 100* heat. Couple weeks ago, I was out there all day and spot rusted a ZT0350 (S30V) in my pocket just from the sweat. We'll see how the Spydie holds up. I may soak it overnight in some salt water as many have suggested until then.

looks real to me. the salts that I have seen do not come with paper work, and it looks very real.
But if you want to get rid of it I will take it off your hands. :D

I agree with the suggestion of soaking the blade in salt water. You'll know very quickly whether or not it's H1 steel.

Rasco - Duly noted. MY apologies to YOU. It was a long, long day at work and the only saving grace was knowing my new Spydie was delivered and waiting.
RevDevil - Nice comment. I loved it. :D

I put the Atlantic in a glass with some serious salt dissolved in hot water. Did the same with an old Tac Force knife someone gave me since I'm a "knife guy" (That's a WHOLE other thread), and a guaranteed fake CRKT KISS knife. We'll see how they look in the morning.

Those are the wife's cups. She IS Wonder Woman.

It's fine. The box seals are an Amazon thing.

It looks real to me. I haven't seen any fake Salts either. Plus, if it makes you feel any better, my ZDP Dragonfly's box was taped at both ends and also came from Amazon.
