Hey everyone,
Recently purchased some new Spyderco knives on Amazon and am concerned as to their authenticity….
Knives cam from Amazon; anyone had an Amazon experience/heard of one with a fake Spyderco?
Two I purchased were a Civilian and a Paramilitary 2.
Appreciated the comments!

Can you post some pics?

If you bought from Amazon direct you probably are alright as they are an authorized Spyderco dealer. If you bought from a 3rd party on Amazon, then all bets are off.

There have been at least a couple reports of folks receiving fake Spydercos direct from Amazon. Part of the problem is that Amazon may co-mingle stock they purchased with stock purchased by "fulfillment by Amazon" third party vendors. Part may be their liberal return policy combined with their tendency to put returned merchandise that is not obviously damaged or defective back into stock. This means unscrupulous buyers can purchase a real Spyderco and return a fake, which then gets sold to another customer. Part may simply be their policy of buying from whoever can give them the lowest price.

I don't generally think of Amazon when I'm looking to buy a knife, even though I do a lot of business with them on other things, but I might consider using them for a model that I'm both very familiar with and fairly certain has not been copied. However, for models like the Civilian and PM2, where fakes are so common that they sometimes outnumber real ones on eBay, I'd stick with dealers I trust and give Amazon a wide berth.

Hi afl,
If you can post pictures we might be able to assist and confirm authenticity. However, many counterfeits today are so good, that we can't confirm anything through pictures. With that in mind, please be aware that you may need to send your knives in for review and for us to make an accurate judgment. You can read more about counterfeits here, http://www.spyderco.com/edge-u-cation/index.php?item=24.

Hi DocT,
Just to be clear and in the interest of transparency - we cannot guarantee that purchases made through Amazon, even direct-shipped-by-Amazon, are legitimate Spyderco products. Yes, Amazon is an authorized Spyderco Dealer. However, as Deacon mentioned, they have a practice of co-mingling their inventory with the inventory of third-party marketplace vendors. Additionally, they do purchase products elsewhere (as opposed to solely direct with us). It is for those reasons that we cannot guarantee that a Spyderco purchased through Amazon is legitimate Spyderco product.

Hope this information is helpful.

Kristi
