Fake zt0801?

I wanted to purchase a ZT0801. I found most prices are around 185-195, however, I found one for sale on Amazon, new and unused for $160.. Is there a possibility that this is fake? I haven't heard too much about fake ZT0801's floating around but I thought someone here might know more about this than me. Thanks for all your help

Certainly there's a possibility it's fake but without any more information no one can tell you.

I might honestly just wait for one to pop up here. Getting a fake knife would be a pretty crappy way to spend 160 dollars :P And I was mainly asking if they had heard of fake ZT801's floating around. I know fake Striders are floating around, as well as fake PM2's. But I haven't heard of any fake ZT801's so I was just wondering

I consulted what I consider the ultimate counterfeit site in China, and they seem to specialize in ZT 777s and 560 variations. No sign of the 801. I think maybe you just got a good deal. Or a second that got returned to a dealer with a minor problem?

There was another seller with a lot more sales on Amazon a few days ago pricing it at 165 that I was gonna purchase it at, but they just seemed to disappear into thin air. and the only seller left is a new seller with only 8 sales in the past month. They're still at 100% rating, but it just feels sketchy

Although I bought my 0801 from a dealer, I have bought two ZT0160 Shifters from Amazon, one being "used" because the packaging was damaged. I've also bought various other knives, both new and used, via Amazon from third-party sellers with no problems at all. As with eBay, I check the feedback for third-party sellers first. The only time I ever had an issue with such a seller, they actually made things right faster than I think Amazon could have ever done directly.

My only concern now is the recent influx of Chinese sellers.

If it bothers you that much, just buy it from the forums here or elsewhere. Used ones in very good/excellent condition run for $160 or less.

Just to follow up, check your seller's website ratings and reviews. I found your knife at a sporting goods site for $162, and the reviews for that particular site seem good. You site might be different, but at least that price seems to be out there at legit sources.

This seller is based in Alabama. Apparently they're an actual knife shop there, retail location and all. That takes some of my worry out but seeing used ZT's pop up here for more than it's selling brand new on Amazon makes me a bit worried

You can get a brand new ZT 0801 from a BF dealer for under that price. That place through the rainforest only has a few ratings even though you have the resolution power of the rainforest.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to do this but could you possibly PM me the site, Gadfly??

Actually, I went back to that site to get you the address and noticed that it actually only provided links to other sites. One of those is the Alabama site you probably bought from, and though rated well on that certain website named for a large river (not sure if I can mention the name, but you know), there were only 3 reviews. So I think I may have spoken too soon. But, as I said in an earlier post, the Chinese counterfeiters don't seem to have gotten around to the 801. Yet.

Why not just cough up the extra $20 and save yourself all this grief? You're already going to drop $160 on something, is $20 more really that big a deal for peace of mind, knowing you got the real deal?

Exactly. There are plenty of great dealers on this site who you can purchase from. I wouldn't take the gamble.

I paid $154 shipped for mine from a legit dealer. I wouldn't worry too much. That is a great deal in my mind.

It's hilarious how paranoid some members get and some even go as far as to pay full msrp from the brand itself for that "assurance". You're pretty much just throwing money away when you do that.

Actually, most buy ZTs at MAP not MSRP unless it's a limited edition or it just came out. MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) for ZT is 20% off MSRP. Once a ZT is readily available and you shop around you can find them at 35%+ off MSRP.

Oops repost, anyways I'm the kinda guy that likes to get his Emerson's for 200$ instead of $260 from the maker; same with ZT and others

Amazon's pricing, even for smaller dealers, is in large part determined by robots. They'll automatically adjust prices based on what else is available. Sometimes these go insane and you find textbooks costing tens of thousands. Other times they try to undercut each other and you end up getting a Buck Hoodlum shipped to your door for $115. This is why the pricing discrepancy at times. It's a normal thing. Just be prepared to take advantage of it when it works out in your favor.

Just send me the extra $25, you'll have paid full price and everyone will be happy!

Works for me.
:D
