When I first started buying on Ebay, I got burned on this pseudo Cattaraugus. All the blades are fake and two wobble badly but the scales and size are beautiful.... live and learn and buy at your own risk.

I posted this a while back, but I got duped into a very convincing Kershaw Leek at a knife show. I had no idea until I noticed after I got home that the etch on the blade was raised, and didn't feel right. In just a few minutes I found the identical knife and box on Ali Express. Painful lesson on why if you are trying to buy a quality knife, you should visit a reputable dealer.

I almost fell for a fake Benchmade Bugout on the 'bay, it was $50 or $60 less than MAP.
So, I went to the various Chinese sites and saw they were counterfeiting them.
At the time, I had no idea they were faking them.

The key is using a 'reputable dealer' AND knowing more than one person there on a first name basis.

Car dealerships, health insurance companies; those keys are applicable everywhere.

If the knife costs more than what you make in an a day, make sure you don't get cheated. Otherwise, you want have enough to put food on the table.

My interest are very narrow. The things I like, I have liked since I was in elementary school. I know them inside and out. I may pay too much for something I want, but could not be tricked by a counterfeit.

If I leave my end of the pool, I use extreme caution.

EngrSorenson EngrSorenson and I went to an "outdoors show" a few months back, and there was a guy selling a bunch of knafs. Some were obvious fakes, and some looked very real. Even being able to pretty confidently spot which was which, i was not willing to buy the real ones.

I'll echo above- only buy from a reliable source. Aside from anything else, you don't really want to support people who WOULD sell fakes, even if the knife you're buying is a real one.

I bought a crk pacific a long time ago on ebay, it had the box, stickers, paperwork and everything (yes knife) included for 329 at the time. However I got paranoid and contacted crk and asked for clarification to which they said their boxes weren't like that but the matter was precarious because I was so very convinced it was a legit item, but at the same time I couldn't put my paranoia at ease. ultimately sold it for a little less than I bought it. Still not a confirmed case of fallen for it, But also the only time because I'm very careful who and where I buy from

You can also get fakes from authorized dealers. A ploy that dishonest players use is to buy a legit knife from an authorized dealer, then put a counterfeit in the box and return it for a refund. Many authorized dealers either cannot or do not check the returned knife to see if it is genuine. Then they sell it to an unsuspecting buyer who thinks they are getting the real thing from the authorized dealer.

It is best to ask the authorized dealer if they are able to send a non-returned knife.

Hope you don't buy a gold membership anytime soon.

I forgot to ask - what are the clues that lead you to believe that the blades are fake? The bolsters show no sign of the knife being apart (at least from what I can tell from the pictures), and I can't zoom in well enough to see if the blades are fakes welded onto tangs of original blades. That welded blade trick is not hard to spot if you know what to look for. I have seen some beautiful full blades in the old knives thread of the traditional forum that, upon close inspection, clearly show the weld lines, yet the owner of the knife was in denial when I pointed it out. BRL taught this lesson back when he was active in the forum. Dishonest folks can take an old beater with completely worn or broken blades, weld on new blades, and sell it for a tidy profit.

this doesn't read well or cast ya In a great light....

here's what I'm seeing you said..... ya bought a knife felt it was fake, crk said boxes were wrong.....and so ya sold it as real to someone else?

I still might, not currently in the market for any knives, here or otherwise, I have a backpack full of opinels, so they take the brunt of all work. But i still might
You're missing the point. To clarify, tell us whether you revealed to the purchaser that you were selling what may have been a counterfeit knife. If you didn't reveal that, you won't find a warm welcome here. If you did reveal that, all good.
