At a gunshow right now and this spyderco dealer has the fakes scattered in. I mean like brass lanyard holes on a pm2. Crazy! Should I punch him out or what.

Sad, but not terribly surprising. Glad you didn't get burned. When it comes to counterfeit knives, and counterfeit/"replica" merchandise in general, gun shows are almost as bad as flea markets.

At least , you weren't Almost tricked into buying a" 440c "Delica for $120 . Trust me. I know. But that's not even the craziest thing. This guy tried selling me a "Spyderco switchblade.". I mean C'mon ! What's the point of a thumb hole in an automatic knife .

Are you guys sure you have the tools to spot fakes? Spyderco has made several automatics with their trademark hole in the blade. Also as seen on this site it's easy enough to swap parts like scales or the lanyard tube.

No sure if you're being serious, or not.

The only Spyderco autoa with usable Spyderhole openers are the Vallotton after-market dual action conversions of the Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder. All Spyderco's manufactured as autos have a small, useless, hole in the blade for "trademark consistency" and the Bi-Fold has a another one, big enough to put your finger through.

I can only speak for myself here. but there are models where I'm confident of my ability to spot a fake and models I would not consider purchasing at a gun show or, for that matter, from anyone but a Spyderco dealer I trust.

But if you want to take a flyer on a PM2 with a brass lanyard tube, it's your money, your choice.

I saw an all black Spin in a cabinet at a UK show yesterday. I asked the guy whether it was genuine Spyderco (!) and he said not, but he HAD heard of Spyderco and that they were very good ....!

You learn something new here everyday. I never knew that Spyderco made switchblades ... Until your post. I wonder why l never saw them. I am Greek , you see. Every year l come to South Carolina for winter. I never saw any Spyderco Automatics . But l know for a fact that the ones that guy was selling were false , because they had 440c etched on the blade.

I was at a show in my town last year and a guy was selling FAKE EVERYTHING!! XM 18, Spyderco, ZT, Benchmade, I MEAN EVERYTHING! I am sure someone got took but I hate to see it! I was telling everyone I knew in the show not to buy his knives!! I would love to see them get caught by a guy like Sal and get the hammer put on them for selling fakes of his fine products. Kevin

Well, if you're talking an "Italian style" switchblade like this...

...then they never have, and probably never will. OTOH, if you're just talking automatics, then they've produced the leftmost five in this picture. They are, from left to right, the Bi-Fold, Embassy, 83mm Citadel, 92mm Citadel, and the Autonomy. The left-most knife is a Vallotton Sub Hilt folder. As sold by Spyderco, it's a regular one hand opener, but some have been converted into dual action front scale release autos by Butch Vallotton...

...Admittedly, only ICE bureaucrats could call the Bi-Fold an auto with a straight face, but they did. Oh, and note the steel. It's 440C...

The guy at the microtech booth even said they were fakes. But when I pick up a golden co knife like the pm2 he had for $155.00 with no cut outs in the frame (not one). A brass lanyard hole that looked like a .25 acp shell that had been chopped at the base. The g10 looked like the dyad jr. Slick shiney micarta, the box had super tiny writing on the label with no date code, the spyder on the boxes had the infamous triangle at the mouth and not symmetric, the jimping was facing straight up(when you put your finger to it, the only way for it to grip would be to hold the knife by the blade backwards), and last but not least..... Here it comes........Vg-10. So yes... Yes I do. Oh and the edgeUcation card was for a Ti-millitary.

Sorry for the vent, but I would never call someone out at a public place and embarrass them unless I knew it was illegit. And if that guy would of said one more smart ass comment (cursing and all)back to me in front of my son (4 years old). Lets just say my son saved him from being more embarrassed and leave it at that. But then I found a ulize and it cooled me off a little. Wow is that a huge useful knife.

We have gun shows here every other month for some reason. I will take his picture and a pic of the knives, which I feel he will still have. And I will get his business name and turn him into spyderco and police personally. He is a scum bag and should be punished accordingly. Plus I'm new to this forum. I thought that was for people trying to sell them on here.

It is really too bad that most organizers don't care at all about fakes being sold at their shows. They always put an anti counterfeit clause in the vendor agreement, but rarely ever actually enforce it. These days, most gun show organizers have much larger concerns than fake knives.
