My beautiful lady in red arrived today! It is an amazing piece of work. It was not as front heavy as it thought it would be, however, swinging it let's me know it needs to land where it is aimed!
I've named her "Lovely Linda" after my beautiful wife who recently wore a red dress! When I saw this I had to have it because of my wife's dress!
Will this get me out of the doghouse Ndog?

Well gettin out of the doghouse is not an easy task sir! Dont fight it! The secret is: You have to have a very nice doghouse! You keep your fridge stocked with beer, Some music, and flint knapping tools and of course a pile of wood to chop to feed the woodstove.

Thanks for the advice Ndog! That means I'll be alone but have a lot of knives!

Congrats. You have just joined a pretty small club:D The Falcata was a bucket-list sword for me, and I love mine. I don't have much "use" for it, but I enjoy keeping the nuclear option of melee weapons bedside.

I'm reasonably sure that most home invaders would probably have pot shots taken at them rather than some maniac charging them with a 3lb sword designed to crush Roman shield walls:D.

Unfortunately for them, I can do both:D

Easiest way out of the doghouse is to post pictures. Come on, let's see 'em. We know you have them. Give them to us. ;)

And Steely, three pounds? Now that is one heavy beast. I can see why it was always used with a shield. I can also understand why Hannibal preferred the Falcata for his personal sword.

I have tried and tried to post photos! I've had no problems until now! o_O

George's list of highlights for the last week:
  • Received his stunning Falcata.
  • Named it "Lovely Linda" after his Wife. (Smart Man!)
  • Got big "Brownie Points" and must have received at least one "Get Out Of Jail (Doghouse) Free" card from the aforementioned Linda for the above naming.
All in all, a pretty good week!

Congratulations!

H A W K, you're a gentleman and a scholar! Thanks for the summary. Now if I can get these photos to post, I'll conclude my summary!

I dunno if the historic ones were that massive, but this one by Kumar is a beast. Nearly 3/8" at the spine, brass and steel and dense wood grips. The grip really only allows one way to swing it, so you are committed to the strike. However, if it lands, most anything in the path is toast:D

I think Shavru once said she'd read that historical Falcata were about 36 ounces in weight, though that might not count handle scales since those tend to rot away. Wouldn't mind an HI Falcata at about 36 ounces myself. It would be a whole lot more durable than the originals, modern steel being vastly superior and stronger to ancient, even at the same weight and thickness. Also wouldn't mind one with the handle of the East Meets West Knife at the same weight, as that would make it an HI Kopis. Might be a bit more versatile of a weapon with that handle.

East Meets West Knife is awesome. I gotta get me one of them. Havent heard from Shavru in a while? Hope all is good with her.

BTW George: Keep that wood well oiled. Since its long and goes across the grain in many directions i would assume it could dry and crack very easily if in dry climate. So far mine is fine but but I have seen one with a crack across the bend area.

Thanks Ndog. I haven't thought of that and I'll certainly keep it coated!

IMG_0192.JPG IMG_0040.JPG I wanted to post this photo of me and my wife Linda because today is her birthday!
When I saw this Falcata, I thought, she sure is beautiful! Then I thought I'd name it "Lovely Linda" because of this red dress she wore!
This is our granddaughter, Olivia!
Just wanted to say hello to all of the Forum family! God bless and have a blessed Labor Day weekend!
