I am trying to decide on a good small stone for EDC. There is nothing to buy around here so it is Internet or nothing for me. If I did not care about the occasional reviews I see claiming that there are a few Falkniven dc4's out there with uneven surfaces out of the box that would be my choice. The size, the design concept and the price are all appealing.

My second choice would be a DMT duosharp. Have any of you guys had issues with the falkeniven dc4? Or have any comments about the duosharp? I would probably carry a fine/extra fine for knife work.

My DC4 had only one problem - the the ceramic and diamond halves came apart. I think that the back of the diamond half is so smooth the adhesive doesn't hold well ! If separation occurs roughen up the back of the diamond half before you apply new miracle glue . Otherwise I can recommend the sharpener !!

Geez, did not think about that one Mete...thanks. What did you use to roughen up the surface?

I have two DC4s - the Diamond side on both is just great, but the ceramic sides on both stones were really inconsistent. One of them had a bunch of deep grooves in the face of the ceramic portion - kind of like someone took a nail and scratched the surface of it all to hell. The other, which the retailer sent me as a replacement, was covered in tons of lumps and chunks (kind of the consistency of an acne-ridden teenager's face) and was totally useless for sharpening. I took the diamond side off of the worst of them and bring it along with me when camping or what-have-you and threw the ceramic side in the trash.

So, the diamond part of the stone is absolutely great, but the ceramic stone on both of the ones I have was really poorly made.
