This is a branch off thread from another I started yesterday (thanks to everyone for thier help.) I've decided to pick up a falkniven f-1, I was wondering if I should go for the laminated or non laminated blade...Also I'll probably look to get an open top leather sheath for it perhaps with a fire steel loop...any ideas wher I might find one...Thanks.

First off, new F1's can only be had with the laminated blade. As far as the open top leather sheath, you can still buy the factory "dangler" style leather sheath directly from them (I don't use mine anymore, but I really like it...it is well made from very heavy leather...I am not trying to sell it as I can forsee using it again in the future), and if you want a custom with a fire steel loop, you might shoot a line to Duane at armorall leather. He makes some excellent sheaths. Kydex can be had from Normark or Island Boy ( Mr. Hummelbaugh owns survival sheath dot com). You might also try BRKT as I just tried my F1 in my Aurora sheath, and it fits snugly though you might be able to shove it in a little too deeply (the aurora sheath has a fire steel loop), a couple of stiches through the bottom of the sheath or a small wad of something tamped into the bottom would completely alleviate that problem.

thanks, sorry for the confusion I've seen the falkniven advetised with the laminated blade and a vg-10 blade on the same sight maybe it was a advertiser error, thanks.

Just checked out Fallkniven's website and they only offer the F1 in a laminated VG10 covexed blade.

IIRC, they are all laminated with VG-10 cores now, outer layers are 420?.

Maybe too late, but a word of caution. I ordered mine last year and the listing at knifeworks said kydex sheath, but it came with the zytel sheath. I don't really mind, the zytel is skinnier and works well with a paracord loop baldrick style.

(singing) "Your gonna like it!" We attached out leatherman kick to our sheath, works nice.
