Numerous mental health professionals advocate holding an object to treat insomnia like a small stone, a pillow, or some other worry item. This is said to give your body a physical anchor. The mild sensory input—weight, texture, temperature—draws attention away from racing thoughts and helps you focus on something neutral and steady. This is a grounding technique, often used in anxiety management or mindfulness practices.

Do you hold a small folding knife to help sleep, not out of fear or for protection, but for the mindfulness benefits like triggering a calming response from the brain?

If so, what knife do you keep in hand? If not, is it worth trying or just psycho-babble? For me, a smooth pocket worn Case swayback or medium stockman 6318 is like a glass of warm milk!! :) ;)

I frequently drift off to sleep while watching TV in bed, late in the evening. Sometimes doing so with the TV remote in my hand. And more than once, I've later woken up not realizing I dropped it off the edge of the bed while sleeping and then wondered where the heck it went (under the bed). For reasons like this, I'm generally not inclined to hold some object I value while I'm sleeping, as it can be unsettling in the morning, if I can't find it. If I feel the need to hold something while I sleep, it'll usually just be a fistful of the bed sheet or blanket, or the corner of my pillow.

I fall asleep extremely Quickly.
I have to be careful, I'll spill food on myself, and yes, poured beer in my lap on the sofa. My wife gets mad, my dog likes it when I drop stuff on the floor though, She's fat. (Dog, Not wife)

Yes, I hate to admit I've dropped at various stages of completion. In my earlier design stages, before I knew what I really liked....I will hold a knife design probably for many hours, learning about it.

In fact doing this so often, I wondered about starting a New knife style...a "Fondling Knife"

A fancy, maybe a Bowie type style. But safer. Maybe less of a point. No dangerous edge.
Just fancy steel, and fancy wood to hold....

I'll probably do It, for me.. because of how I am.

I went to bed one time when I was a kid (10-12) with an open pocket knife stuck into the waist of my pajamas. I had watched "The Fall of the House of Usher"with my Father and it had scared the hell out of me, watching people being bricked up Alive behind walls. I thought ( I guess) I could protect myself if they came for me when I was asleep. How I did not end up cutting myself, I do not know? John

I am amazed we aren't calling you Joan and not John - amazing you didn't cut yourself all right!

Can't say I have fallen asleep holding a pocket knife- but they do get to be used as a fidget gadget when I'm watching a movie.
