Finally got some images of a trove which followed me home from a farm auction. Then, some other Wisconsin Winter shots. Bear with me, I'm on a learning curve here. Savage Mod 24DL, .22/20ga, Ruger Single Six, and Buck 110.

Cute Bird and I love the guns! Is it a new model Single Six or an old model? With ammo I don't think you would starve durring the summer. What year is the 110 FG? Sweet stuff!! :D

Wow! Loving the combo-gun.

If the price was right you may have really scored, Kis.

Lovin that over under boomstick.

1982 Ruger Single Six Convertible

1964 Savage Model 24jDL -stock and barrel need clean up. Stock scoured, barrel sanded and painted 3-5 times.

Buck 110X---? 1990?

Thanks

I figured that Savage had to be old. The wood looked a lot darker and nicer than it if was a recent model:thumbup:

HD....22 and .22 wmr. Two cyclinders. 6.5 inch barrel.

and yeah, old wood makes for good guns. Well, at least makes for good texture.

I likes texture.

See, you will never see that at an auction or yard sale in these parts. Too many gun hating/hoplophobic types. Porno? Dope pipes? By the load. But guns, leather, ammo? Never.

Someday maybe I'll walk through the snow with you.

Until then, thanks again for sharing.

John

Hey John...neat to see you post. I often think of you and your adventure through life. :) Hope you and Jordie are fine.

You might wanna reconsider that walk....

Great pics! beautiful scenery, and nice hardware too!

You hit the trifecta at that auction, for sure. If savage still made them that nice, maybe they would still sell some. maybe they would cost too much...

1964? A pretty good vintage that year!

:D

Snowfall has been disappointing around here, after the heavy amounts in December. maybe a foot coming by Wed. though. promises promises!

Take care,

Tom

PS Good to see you John!

Very nice Kismet, both the pics and the bangenspielers. I particularly have a hankerin for the old Savage.

Great finds and very nice pics my friend! I once took a cottontail on the run with my cousin's old Single Six shooting LR Hollow points, took me five rounds though. One of our friends with us said, "That was some damned good shootin Yvsa!" and I told him, "Nothing good at all about it, just plain old luck." although I did feel good about it because it was a really long shot and way out of normal pistol range!  :D

I also had a .22/.410 over and under that didn't have a stock or fore end when I got it so I had to make it one. I made it out of a piece of well seasoned Hackberry I picked up at our little local lumber yard. The Hackberry was the whitest wood I'd ever seen so I stained it a dark Walnut and being so white it took the stain beautifully! I didn't know about Tru-Oil back then and didn't have the money anyway but I did have access to Deft Lacquer and I put on umpteen coats all hand sanded and rubbed.
The stain and the hand rubbed lacquer brought out the beautiful grain of the Hackberry and it was one of the prettiest stocks I had ever seen.:D

Yuh nSuh?

I'd love to be able to scupt a stock for a rifle or shotgun. That is HARD.

Years ago, I got a LeFevre sxs 12ga that needed a new stock. "Long Gun Special," I think it was. Neat old gun, factory made single trigger...made, it appeared, by brazing one slot shut and finagaling the single trigger. Started the process. Finally surrendered after just butchering a nice piece of wood, and got a stock from some company down in Missouri...gone now.

Neat old gun.

But then, I like de old guns.

I'd like to have seen some of the stocks you made. You did one for an action you found in a barn or something, didn't you?

With that combo of long arm, knife and pistol you could probably survive just about anywhere.
great snag.

I gotta ask...don't answer if you don't want to...what did the savage set you back?
