As part of an extended birthday celebration I treated my wife to a North Carolina getaway. Our destination was Half-Mile Farm in Highlands, NC. Many of you may recall that we visited Half-Mile Farm together with Phil (Comprehensivist) & his wife right after Blade Show in June of this year. That was springtime in the mountains. This past week's trip was resplendent with fall colors:

A few shots near Franklin, NC along the highway:

After a busy Labor Day weekend the mood at HMF was quite peaceful & relaxed:

There's something magical about walking along a crushed stone drive & hearing the crunch:

Everywhere you turn there is something quaint to meet the eye:

Speaking of quaint, the cabins on property are the real deal:

Scenes of fall were everywhere:

The flower boxes at the Old Edwards Inn were brimming with flowers:

Since this is a knife forum I figured I better include at least one knife pic w/ fall colors even if it was taken last spring:

Cheers to Fall, the beauty of North Carolina and the abundance of the harvest:

Cheers Peter! Looks like an awesome trip! I am so glad for autumn to arrive, I just hope we get some rains first so the colors will last longer...

Hey Peter, great shots. That looks like Franklin, NC just down 64 from highlands. I live over there a few days a week. Beautiful country, glad you all can enjoy it.

The KEB you were kind enough to move along to me is my constant companion in those woods.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Franklin, NC location.......must of had "GA on my Mind"....lol. Glad to hear you are enjoying the old school KEB !

We make our getaways to NC as well! Beautiful country and thank you for sharing. Right now I've got Maine on my mind.

Wonderfully crisp photos Peter. The bright colors really pop. That area of North Carolina is truly a slice of paradise. Restful, beautiful, and full of rich local history. I am glad that you and Susan got to experience it again. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Phil

Hey Peter, glad you got back up to my area again so soon. Thanks for the photos, I'm ready for fall to come in the mountains now. Also, I've seen that KEB you let go to Phil (sjostygg) it's a beauty.

Beautiful area; I can see why you made a second trip for a special occasion.

I am ready for Fall!

Great pictures Peter. Looks like you and your bride had a lovely time. i know she deserved it:D

Amazing photos Peter! Looks like a great place to visit. I love the pictures of the cabin, the flowers and the coke sign.

Great pictures!! I'd love to spend some time on that side of the country.

You captured this time of year very well. Love the pics and the shades of autumn. What a great way to spend an extended birthday.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's been fun renting a home in N. Georgia and having the opportunity to visit the mountains, not to mention frequent visits to the Fiddleback Shop. Our lease will be ending in about three months and then its back to SW Florida. We already know we're going to miss hanging our hats in this part of the country. But then the beach will call & we'll have all that wonderful seafood to look forward to.

BTW......Phillip was right, my wife did deserve this little get-a-way. I was lucky just to tag along ;)

I almost forgot.....my wife and I were sitting on the back porch of the main building late one afternoon sipping some wine & watching a couple sitting down by the lake in the white Adirondack chairs When they slowly walked back up the hill hand-in-hand and stepped up onto the porch my wife asked "Well, how did you enjoy your Cialis Moment down by the lake" ? You wouldn't believe how they cracked up. We ended up sharing our wine with them & and a few more laughs. Good times for sure !
