I'm a cold weather guy, so I don't need something insanely warm. Also, NYC doesn't get that cold. I'm looking for something like the Filson Mackinaw Cruiser but a bit lighter weight. I like the wool, and durability / longevity is another thing I would like to retain. Any recommendations?

Sounds like something like a Swanndri Ranger would serve you well.

That's what I've got. I'm an old NYC kid and at this time of year, a light raincoat like my Helly Hanson over the Swanndri will take me through the season. If it gets insanely cold later on, a midweight parka will cover it.

Ibex make nice products in general, and some models are even made in the US. I borrowed a boiled wool model, which is more than what you need, but they have an array of weights and models.

I will be in nothing heavier than a flannel shirt over an UnderArmor tee until at least mid December. :)

their Mackinaw coats are pretty heavy (albeit pretty warm too :))- their Liner jacket is a nice weight, I have one that is worn a lot in the fall

I have both, or rather all 3 - a Cruiser and liner jackets in both weights. While the cruiser is a heavy coat, the liners are lightweight like a baseball jacket. The lighter weight liner is warm, and even warmer as an underlayer. The heavier version is a good light winter coat by itself. Its the same weight wool that is used in the Cruiser. I wear mine at work every day in colder weather.

I ended up going with the Mackinaw Vest. At ~$120 (retail B&M store in Manhattan) it saved me a good deal of money and it goes great with most of my business casual attire. Fits perfectly under a blazer / jacket to get that extra bit of warmth. Michigan right now is mid 40's and 50's. No need for anything really at all.

Thanks for the suggestions and I found another brand or two to keep an eye on.

Dale of Norway Storebjorn-perfect for the application. beautifully durably knit norwegian wool, made in norway, 100 bucks. 100 times nicer than the money I wasted on TAD's special service sweater, which fell apart within the first three wears. And DON honors their warrantees...
