Well the taxman has com meth.

The answer to which one is Both.

I wanted a small fixed blade knife and decided on either the Fallknivan F1 or ESSE 3. After getting my tax return I bought "BOTH" and had $20.00 left for a couple of beers and a hamburger.

I received them both the same day, first impressions:

Fallknivan F1 fits my hand better since the handle is a little bigger, don't care much for the Kydex sheath but I do like the knife. This knife will be used as my boating/camping knife.

ESSE 3 This knife is rather small for my large hands but still doable. I like the ESSE sheath much better, and the good news is the Fallknivan F1 fits nicely in it. The best thing I like about the sheath is the knife sits up high on my body and covers easily with a tee shirt. This knife will be used as my dry weather hiking and backyard work knife.

Overall I am pleased with both knives and if I were to rate each on first impressions using a 10 point system I would rate the Fallknivan F1 10 points and the ESSE 3 9 points. Looking forward to working both.

ESEE 3, remember you're not just buying a knife you are buy the warranty and its one heck of a warranty.

If you find the handle too short you can always get some TKC scales which change the profile a good bit and lengthen.

Or you can look at the ESEE 4 but the thicker blade stock is a bit chubby for everyday stuff.

Welcome. Gotta admit, I'm a bit confused.

You are asking which one of those two to buy, but you already know which one to buy, and that one is "both", and you already bought them.

You will really like the F-1 sheath after you give it a chance, nope, it doesn't "ride high, but you can slide in into any pocket and forget about it. I've had many ESEE-3 knives, but I would've went with the Becker 16 over it for an all-arounder, because of the handle length, but if the ESEE-3 fits your hands and needs, it's hard to beat.

Before I would spend the extra for the "other" scales for the ESEE, I would sell it and check out one of the smaller Swamp Rat knives.

Ericv, Ive got plenty of knives in the 4+" range so the esse 4 is out, the more I fondle this knife the more I like it. I'll leave it as is and see how it performs for me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sd550, your right about the Faullknivan sheath. I put the knife & sheath in my pocket and run the belt through it and cant even feel it when sitting, driving etc.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Another knife to look at with a very similar, but far superior, feel to the ESEE-3 and F1 is the DPX HEFT 4. The handles are wider and more contoured with a very similar blade shape.
