i was looking at the knife testing at knifetesting.com on the A1 and it seemed to just about perfect for my standereds i was wondering people were also saying the small brother of the A1 the F1 was really good as well i want a knife that would be a good survival knife and i was heading in the direction of the A1 because it is a good chopper and long enough for easyer batoning which one should i get (the money difference isn't much so that dosn't matter much) plus i live in the pacific north west so im in a foresst setting

and i though the fallkniven A1 would be a knife that you could really depend your life on and and if you didn't (even tho i know not to) have a secondary blade that this would be enough blade to depend on.

My A1 is the one knife I own that I know I can completely depend upon, and which provides a lot of versatility for various uses.

The A-1 is a fine knife. I enjoy mine.

A knife of that length is simply not going to be a "good" chopper compared to a hand axe or a knife like a Ranger RD9 (10" blade) or a typical khukuri. It will chop better than the shorter F-1. The F-1 would be handier for carving a trap or cleaning game. All compromises.

It is excellent for batoning - driving the knife with a wooden club to cut wood or, even better, to split wood lengthways. (Just do your best to avoid hitting the handle.)

You might also want to check out the S1. Its right in the middle between the F1 and A1 for size and is a great all-around knife.
