Hey Bladers!

I wanted to get a decent fixed blade survival type knife for under $200 and finally ordered the Fallkniven A1. It seems to have the most of the qualities I'd need for a long term backpacking/survival knife.

I've seen reports where some people love them and others are not so impressed. What are your guys thoughts on a survival blade for under $200? Did I make a decent choice or will I be wanting something else in six months?

Exellent choice you wont regret it unless you try to cut rocks.

There are many excellent knives available that will get the job done for under $200, the Fallkniven A1 is definately one of them.

I have several Fallknivens and have never been disappointed, IMO they rate among the best of the best available.

The A1 is an excellent choice and will serve you well.

You will likely get numerous recommendations for other knives, all of which will have merit of their own, but you have already done well with your choice of the A1.

I've been using A1 for several years now and it is one of the best knives in my inventory. Well balanced, solid, great ergonimics, good handle and extremely sharp out-of-the-box. Only the edge retention could be a bit better, especially when compared with CPM 3V or INFI. But on the other hand, it is very easy to sharpen.

Hard to beat that choice, however a second knife in a-2 would be best of both worlds.

I've owned the S1 and it was a great knife, you won't regret purchasing the A1. I don't think there is a better knife at that price point.

Very nice knife. If I didn't have an old CarbonV SRK already I'd probably have one by now, but I'm holding out for a 3G version ;)

Excellent choice. Real quality. For your next knife, you might consider a smaller blade to complement it. If the A1 works for you, check out their WM-1.

:thumbup:I've owned an original all VG10 A-1 since 1999, and it is still my go-to camp knife. Probably the best knife I've ever owned. Can't go wrong with Fallkniven!

If you use the A1 for knife purposes only, you'll never be disappointed with it. The only reason to want another knife in 6 months is your own personal tendency to want new stuff. It won't be because the A1 is lacking as camp knife.

Oh dear! Do I detect a bit of "buyer's regret". Don't worry, you made an excellent choice and while there are lot's of other knives that can do the job - the A1 would be in the Top 10 on just about every list. - Enjoy

I'd also like to add that Fallkniven, in my personal opinion, does VG10 better than any other knife company. They have a ton of bite and are tough as nails. Definitely the best stainless blades on the market (once again, in my opinion).

I love my A1. It is a perfect all round camp-field-survival knife.

We need a pic! :D
