Since there are no Fallkniven areas in Bladeforums, (as far as I know) I thought this would be a good place to get advice on this subject since you guys are always awesome and helpful. I love my SARsquatch, but I was looking for something cheaper to "compliment" it or to be used as a survival/ bushcraft knife for shorter trips and hikes. I have been looking closely at the Fallkniven S1 and was wondering if any of you could offer any input on these knives. I'm still a Busse man of course, but any thoughts? Budget is about $130

I think the F1 with Micarta grips is a great, inexpensive knife for such uses.

Same goes for a few from Bark River.

I've had both, and only now because of the Busse CABS will I no longer use them.

Well I was going to seek out a Bark River Bravo-1 until I saw Noss test it at knifetests.com. The edge rolled from chopping and batoning wood! That's unacceptable to me. How thick is the F1? Good enough for batoning?

Well the Fallkniven blades are sweet, I have 2 S1's and I also like my F1 it is well suited for survival/ bushcraft !! Both of these blades are in the price range that you were looking for and will do just fine.....

Check out the Fallkniven H1 also or pickup a Busse CABS.

All the Fallknivens are good, but I would suggest the S1 because it bridges the small to medium knife group well and can be used for batoning. They come with Krayton handles and if or when they start to go, replace them with whatever you want. It is by far the most value-for-money option.

I have the F1 and the A1. The F1 is the sharpest and best knife for carving and wood working i have. The F1 surpasses all of my other blades in this area. The convex is so shallow you barely need to lift the blade to remove A Lot of material ( wood ) I am looking to get an S1 soon and an A2.

Falkies are the best knife for the money i think.

It's not Kraton it's Thermorun.

in that price range I would suggest you grab a Scrapyard or a Swamprat user in that size. Sr101 is a sweet steel, and the SR77 is not too shabby either on the scraps.

Then you will still have a hard use knife with the Busse family warranty!

Fallkys rock!!!!! F-1 is prob the king of the range.
Im looking at getting a S-1 if i cant find the busse im looking for?

Bigfatty, I wouldn't be opposed to considering a Swamprat (4-5 inch blade.) Which would you recommend?

Ratmandu appears to be the only thing available on their site right now in that range but you might snag something from the exchange.
I like the Fallknivens just fine also.
