Fallkniven bone question!?

Hey guys

The Fallkniven U1 comes with Ochre yellow bone scales. Ive googled Ochre and wiki says :

Ochre is term for both a golden-yellow or light yellow brown color and for a form of earth pigment which produces the color.

...ochres are non-toxic, and can be used to make an oil paint that dries quickly and covers surfaces thoroughly. To manufacture ground ochre, ochre clay is first mined from the ground.

Allright, so Ochre is a coloring pigment of some sorts. What about the "bone"? Just a term for some synthetic material?

Anybody know if its man-colored bone of some creature? I know that on other Fallkniven knives theyve specified which sort it was, for instance camel and highland cattle bone, but not on the U1.

Thanks for your help.

I think its just ochre colored bone. As in golden yellow colored bone of some sort.

I wrote Fallkniven to see what kinda bone it is. For some odd reason id like to know, before i buy it. Not that it would make a difference though.

That was a pretty fast reply from Fallkniven!!

The ochre yellow is a way to try and describe a color! Usually a warm, yellow color. Ochre is an earth color which can vary from light yellow to orange and brown. Usually used for face and body painting, some thousand years ago J

We’re using real bones from free-walking high-land cattle. These bone are colored and the luster is “ochre yellow”.

Love it when a company takes the time to answer questions!

I have always received quick responses from Fallkniven. Good to know you got your answer.

I have a P/3G in Ochre Yellow, the material and color looks even better in hand than it does in the pictures.

Bovine shin bone is the standard bone usen in knife handles.

It is a very tough material, often dyed and/or jigged to add color and texture.

Here are a few photos of bone handles:

Other types of bone are used, but they are generally more expensive.

Camel bone is often dyed and stabilized, and can be very attractive.

Fosslized bone is also used my some makers.
