Has anyone given the limited run F1/3G a test yet? I've been an F1 user for while and I like ease of field sharpening the VG-10 offers. I assume the 3G (RC 61) is going to keep an edge considerably longer while making it harder to field sharpen, but I'm curious as to what others think or have experienced. I'm looking forward to comparing the two and will get back with my thoughts when I've received it and had the chance to put it to the test.

So far so good with mine. I've only had it for about a week so it hasn't seen a TON of use yet but it seems good.

My Laminated VG-10 F1 has seen lots and lots of field time and the 3G has the same feel so the transition should be easy.

Some folks scored on the initial 3G run of F1s last year so surely there's someone with more experience with the 3G than I've got.

I have a TK-1 and yes the 3G is much more wear resistant .Harder to sharpen perhaps but you'll have to sharpen much less. 3G is a real super steel ,amazing what we metallurgists can make !! You could get the DC-4 sharpener and that would make things easy .Or develop your techniques for sharpening a convex edge.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I either use a DC3 for field sharpening or river rocks. DC3 & 4 are both great tools, I just prefer the smaller size. I ordered the 3G version this morning and will give it a try. I've had my F1 for 7 years and use it almost exclusively when i go out for more than a day trip. This knife is a machine and has never let me down. Here is a custom F1 I got my hands on a few months ago.

I love the wood on that custom Gravitas! Looks great!

Anyone have some sources for F1 blade blanks for me to put on my own scales? Bladeforum members, maybe? Laminated VG-10 is what I'd be looking for. Thanks.

Thanks bro. That's Desert Ironwood with white spacers and a torqouise inlay. Custom handled by BRK&T
