Fallkniven F1 handle removal

Has anyone ever removed the "rubber" handle from the F1 and installed their own custom handle? I would really like to get a F1 due to all of the positive reviews but am concerned the handle will be too thin for me.

I heard you can get the blade but it seems cheaper to get the knife with the rubber handle. I can’t pay the 250+ to get it from Fallkniven with a custom handle.

Thanks

The handle profile of the standard model with the thermorun handles is different than the profile of the blank blade. It's smaller, as the thermorun wraps fully around the tang on the top and bottom. The blanks are intended to have scales mounted with an "exposed" full tang, so are larger. Just something to keep in mind.

I used my F1 to field dress a black bear and a moose, under trying conditions (cold, wet, bloody, slippery) and found the F1 grip quite satisfactory. Not quite as good as a CS Master Hunter's Kraton, but good enough.

not an insurmountable problem, just an extra step or three when rehandling.

the tang will still extend at the back of the handle.

The difference between the tang on the regular model and the blank is visible in this pic (goes for all models)

I found some places that actually offer the "Bare Blade" with the 3 pin layout for around $120....
