Fallkniven F1 Handle?

Hello all,

I have owned the Fallkniven F1 with thermorun handle for a couple of years. This past weekend I took it on a camping trip. I was a little bored so I began throwing it against a tree. I figured the knife was rugged enough to handle a few throws. After the third throw, I noticed that the bottom of the handle had become disfigured (kind of like when you drop a bar of soap).

Meanwhile, my brother's cheaper SOG was unscathed.

Very frustrating considering the amount of money I paid on the knife (even if it isn't a throwing knife). I expected more durability than this.

Anyway, how does thermorun compare to G10 and micarta in the durability department?

Ive never held one but I never liked the look of the thermorun and If/when I buy an F1 which is likely as I really like the profile I would get just the blade and have a knifemaker put some black textured g10 on it.

G10 is better than Micarta, too. Typically...some brands might be throwing out some super-strong micarta that I don't know about.

G10 is stronger and tougher than Micarta, there are grades of Micarta, all of them are tough enough to beat on though, so it is sort of pointless in regards to functional gains.

Peter has announced that there are going to be some new Fallkniven models later this year/early next year. Hopefully they will be the same blades with micarta or G10 handles. I love the blade on my A1, but there is nothing I like about the thermorun. Res C seems to be the only durable soft handle material.

It's still for sale, but business is good, and Peter has decided to keep on moving forward (at least for a while).

That's good to hear

I think the handle on the F1 could do with being a tad thicker, my mates came with a cip in the handle from the first owner using it in the kitchen.
