Fallkniven F1 or Benchmade 145?

I will soon be traveling to the boundary waters for an extended canoeing/camping trip, and I am trying to decide which fixed blade knife would be most appropriate. I will also use this knife for hunting back home in Ohio. I need to choose between the Fallkniven F1 or the Benchmade 145. Any input would be most appreciated.

Though I had the satisfaction of being the guy who named the Nimravus in a contest on the Benchmade Forum, I'd go with the Fällkniven F1 for it being a simple flat-ground drop point "hunter" with a very comfortable grip and a better choice of carrying options from the factory.

I like both but I'm not sure why the F1 blade has to be so thick- 3/16'' I believe. The 145 would out slice it any day and it has a nice tip design too.

Hey Guys....

I have both Nimrav-I and all of the Fallknivens, and although the Nims are Fantastic knives, they aren't much suited for the type of work you'll be doing with it..
Not to say they won't do the job,it's just the Fallkniven FI is a better knife in this case....

The thicker blade on the FI would be more useful with camp chores....

Hope this helps..

I have both knives. The BM 145 I carry as a protection knife with its sharper point and blade shape, however, the factory kydex sheath would not fit on the thinest belt I have...a very poor design to my way of thinking, so I removerd the inner part of the sheath and covered it with a thick leather and large belt loop.
The F1 is a very strong blade and I also think it would make a better camp/hiking knife. The kydex sheath is ok for your purpose but I still cut of the belt loop on mine and covered it with leather too. So I like the look and feel of leather and the kydex makes a very stiff and secure liner

I also think that the VG-10 will stand up to the wet weather better then the M2 tool steel of the Nimravius.
how's that for $.02 worth...
have a good trip

It looks like I will be going with the Fallkniven F1. Although all of my folders (with the exception of the Spyderco Wegner Jr.) are Benchmades, I am getting the impression that the F1 is the better choice for a camping/hunting fixed blade. This is my first fixed blade knife purchase and it was a hard choice. Thanks for all of the useful input!

Looks like I'm a day late, but the Fallkniven F1 is just an outstanding all around utility knife that happens to be a drop point hunter design, and so is among the very best and most useful of hunting styled grinds, and out of very good steel in VG-10.

The Nimravus does come in ATS-34 by the way, and is ok for utility but has a slight tactical bent to it's grind style. But the VG-10 might be one tiny notch better than ATS-34 (but close) anyway.
