I'm about to order a Fallkniven F1, but I need to check on one thing first: Is the handle made out of soft squishy plastic, or is it hard plastic? How durable is the material?

Thermorun is a lot harder than kraton , but still pretty resilient. Very nice grip, especially when wet. I've seen Fallknivens beaten to heck where the owner's baton wacked the handle over time and the damage was pretty minor. I wouldn't worry about the durability of the handle. I wish all Kraton was replaced with Thermorun on every factory knife if I had my way.:D

You're gonna love the F1. One of the best knives going ever. I'm saving to get another before the prices jack up again.

Get it !

get it! its so simple but so functional. also the sheath is very small and slim, great knife for sure.

the only reason you wouldn't like this knife is if your hands are on the larger end of the scale (and plenty of folks that have large hands still like it :))- it's the only "real" complaint I've heard of for the F1, and many of those folks simply purchase a custom handled one (Bark River offers several handle options)

the thermorun is durable and feels very good in hand (albeit my medium sized hands)

Thermorun is a much denser material than kraton and a bit less sticky as well. However it does give an exceptional grip when wet or covered in blood. I wear XL gloves and the handle fits my hand well especialy when wearing gloves. The handle shape is very comfortable in use. As to durability the Thermorun handle has held up very very well even in heavy use, but I must admit I haven't beaten directly on the handle. The F1 is a fantastic knife exceedng my expectations in every area. I will probably pick up the larger S1 in the future but that is due only to my preference for a 5 inch blade.

I think the S1 gives a wee bit more capability in the form of batonning or light chopping, but those who are extremely deft with a 4 incher will find the f1 to be all they need. I'm not as proficient as some of the heavy users here, so I need a slightly longer knife. My next one will be the S1 for sure. In fact, I'll probably get rid of my A1 once I get used to the S1.

yup, i was doing food prep last night and while washing it i noticed the grip actually got grippier when wet! my thumb was actually making squeaking sounds while i was rubbing it against the handle spine area to test out the grip.

i have medium hands and i do wish the handle is a bit more hand filling. however, after handling it for a few days now i'm starting to not notice my only complaint of it.

Wrap that F1 grip in TackyMax and it'll be perfect. I have small/medium hands and the F1's grip is too thin for me as well. I'm gonna use the TackyMax on it.

good hard grip, but feels soft and nice in the hand. great for wet conditions.
I have damaged the handle on an a1 during a batonning session, but in my opinion that's abuse and not the fault of the handle. It's only a dent and it only proves you're able to damage stuff when doing silly things
