Well as stated yesterday, though nicely made, I hated the F1 sheath. It had a snap and riveted belt loop that was leaving marks on my its rubber handle. So last night I came up with this. The firesteel is a 3000 stroke cheapie from ountycay ommcay. I've found a bigger one with a nice oak handle, but since this knive has a rubber handle anyway wha the how.

Also. Lately I've gotten lots of advice to spend more time on my edges. I like em natural best, but on this one I did a lot of sanding. Went up to 400 grit. Should I go more? Would you guys prefer if I just blacked the edge with edgekote (which I have)? Or would you like a waxed edge better??? All are options for future sheaths.

Dawgone Andy that's sweet.

I like to see edges boned (correct term?). But that's just personal preference. Some folks coat the edge with gum tragacanth (whatever the heck that is) before boning.

Steve

Thanks Steve. I'd guess that gum tragacanth is what edgekote is. I'll check the side of the bottle when I get home.

Andy,
That is a very sweet sheath...I have gotta get me a firesteel to use as a template for an "outdoors" type sheath...Got any idea where I can get a good one for next to no money??

I gotta hand it to ya bro...You got tha touch!!

Kudo's, I would rock that sheath !

BTW...

Gum trag and edge coat are 2 different things...

Some of the older dudes use Gun trag and some dont...Some of the newer guy's use it and some dont..

Well I am 34 and I use it from time to time:D

Using Gum trag and a piece of bone or plastic, you smooth the edges after final sanding...Makes a nice surface finish...Yea you can use water or alchohol but the Gum makes it more errr Slicker??

THEN you apply a lite coat of Edge coat and go and sin no more:eek:

Damn Dave, I thought you were older for some reason. We're basically the same age. I think I'm gonna try to sell a few of these sheaths. The F1 is a popular knife. Sweet too with a convex grind and layered Sweedish stainless steel. Let people choose options like color and edge finish. Where do you get that gum trag? They got that at Tandy. I gotta go by there again soon anyway. Its like 5 miles from my work. Thing I don't like about the edge kote is the color. black. Geez I hate putting it on my sheaths.

Edited. Sorry Dave, forgot to answer where to get one. The one on my sheath was nine bucks from County Comm.

I sound older huh??? lol:D

yea Tandy has it...I get mine (when I use it!) from Zack White's here in NC...A bit cheaper than paying for shipping etc..

Sale?? hmmm...ONE word of caution

You ARE good enough already to make some cash selling sheaths...However are you ready to have to do so??

typed out the rest, but I am gonna PM ya

Keeping my job bro. Don't worry about that. Just wanna earn a few more of these Fallknivens. LOL. I'm tellin ya that convex grind is the shiaznyit on this one.

FYI, gum tragacanth is a natural latex--IIRC, it grows pretty well in arid or semi-arid areas, and was investigated for a while, maybe during WWII, as a possible replacement for rubber (which got kind of dicey to acquire as the Japanese made their way down the western edge of the Pacific Rim.)
