Anyone use both of these for camping/bushcraft work. I know the f1 has tons of reviews so im looking more for info on the sts-3 and if it is even in the same league as the f1. thanks

I have about 15 Bark River knives and 2 Fallknivens, the F1 and the A1. Guess which knives see the most action? The Bark River Aurora and the F1. I would choose the F1 over the STS3 for camp and bushcraft.

I second what HandofCod said. The STS3 can do bushcraft in a pinch but it really wasn't designed for that. F1, on the other hand, is a pure bushcraft/survival knife. Its blade geometry is perfect for heavy duty use in the woods. You can baton F1 all day long and it will not miss a beat. That said, the F1 should not be batoned on a hard surface. A plank of wood or a log should always be used underneath to avoid potential chipping if the knife suddenly drops through during batoning.

what is the sys designed for? To clarify I was looking at the model without the false grind on the spine since I felt that it would be pointless for bushcraft use. I already have a f1 but I like the looks and can only justify it if it will actually get use.

The STS series (3,5 and 8) are military combat knives. Their geometry is designed for slicing rather than bushcraft. You can use them in the woods if you had to, but I think you'll be happier with the F1 for that task.

that's what ill do. I think im just a sucker for that blade shape and figured the convex grinds can't be too different. I guess it Reminds me (very loosely) of the fiddleback palmer that I've been coveting but unable to acquire. Maybe im just looking to fill that void. The f1 stays

That aurora knife is nice....but don't you think it looks like
It should belong in a wood block in the kitchen?

The Aurora would be a poor choice for regular kitchen duties because your hand would hit the cutting board a lot. it is designed from the bottom up as a flagship bushcraft blade for bark river and is probably their best design to date.

The STS-3 was designed as a general purpose knife though I'm sure it could be handy for a soldier. The factory kydex locks tight and the handles fit most hands well. The full convex grind on the STS-3 is what seperates it from the F-1, which also shares a similar grind but is more thick going down to the edge. If you're inclined just to try one out I would go for it. Bark Rivers are consistently the sharpest knives I have handled.

Funny, I have been debating purchasing an STS-3 for months, but I have an F1 already.
