Hey Guys,

What knife do you like for all around wilderness use including processing game, firewood, trap making, ect?

The website says the S1 is convexed, what type of grind does the F1 have?

Thanks,

G

I prefer the S1, little bit more length but that is personal. I have swapped between the two over the last week doing dinner duty and not much between them.
What I want is the F1 full leather sheath for my S1.

Good question

I am trying to determine which I should take with me on the weekend - hard choice!!

A lot but not all people advocate a knife in the 4-6 inch range - and both of these are

The S1 is longer but still only a long as a typical steak knife, but sometimes even shorter is good and lighter on hip/pack. I love the S1 but wonder if the F1 is a smidgeon more practical.

The S1 was built as a Forest knife and the S1 as a survival knife - but they are clearly qualified (by various militaries) and used as both by a great many.

Like a of of choices it may come down to your individual needs and taste more than clearly superior performance on any major dimension

let us know - I bought the S1 online and then bought the F1 in a shop before the S1 arrived!!!

I have both the F1 and S1, and I'd recommend the S1 for the purposes outlined in the OP.

I have the F1 & W1, and had an H1. I "tried" to buy the S1 last week, but went with the A1 instead, due to the beefier handle. The A1 just seems to be a better fit for my hand that any of them. I'll put up with the extra size for a comfortable grip. YMMV.

G123 I have always liked that type of sheath.
Got the same type on my older Buck Skinner.

I've owned both and still own the F1. The S1 always felt a little small on the handle and the blade length was either too short or too long, depending on the task. The F1, on the other hand, carries very well, cuts like a machine and maintains an edge better than most of my knives. I also love the full leather sheath, it looks great and doesn't scare people :).

I have owned 2 S1s and 4 F1s. My first S1 just wasn't large enough to really do anything that the F1 couldn't do in a smaller, lighter, more compact package so I got rid of it. Then about a year later I thought maybe I didn't give the S1 a fair shake so I got another. Sure enough, I still just couldn't see any advantages over the smaller, lighter F1. I also much preferred the blade shape and especially the point on the F1.

So now, I own 4 F1s and 0 S1s. The extra bit of blade just doesn't do enough to merit the extra cost, weight, and size in my opinion.

Both of the have small, slippery and uncomfortable handles IMHO.
But I would say go with the S1 because the F1 is just too small... :)

I like the S1. I got to handle one last weekend. The handle might be small for some people.

I went to NewGraham with intentions of buying the F1 or S1, but was disappointed with the small handle. To me, they didn't feel right.

S1 is an excellent woods knife. recommended.

I honestly think the F1 would be my all-time favorite general purpose fixed-blade knife if the handle was larger.

Stay sharp,
