I am in the knife buying mood today..i just bought a Rat RC-4...now i think i am going to buy Fallkniven F1...so how is the F1 in terms as a tough knife....is the blade rust resistant, is it a good thickness.....where's the best place to buy one...

The F1 has a laminated stainless steel blade .The standard one has a core of VG-10 and later this year a version with a core of SGPS [a real super steel]. Different handle materials are available.A very fine knife .The H1 is similar with different shape.Fallknivens are very high quality.

Very rust resistant. Very stout for its length. VERY stout. Thick blade with a convex grind. Compact overall. About the size of a 3 3/4 inch folder, opened. One of the tougher small knives you will find. Factory sheath is so-so compared to RAT. Custom would improve the package.

When will they be offering the new steel? Is it to come standard or will it be an option?

3G steel for blade. Not confirmed but handle is expected to be Thermorun.

F1's been my favourite knives for years! Extremely solid, very easy to sharpen, well-balanced with great ergonomics. Unfortunately due to the high rate of the Japanese Yen where the VG-10/3G steel are being produced, they have become somewhat pricey lately (up to 35%). But some internet stores are still offering them for 'old' prices, especially the regular F1. For 'tactical' purposes, I'd opt the S1 which is slightly longer.

I didn't know that!

Thank you, Mete.

It was about time to get a replacement Fallkniven ... traded the last one out to a family member a few years ago.

Any idea what the cost is going to be for one of these? Will they offer different models (a1 h1 s1) with the 3g steel? That 3g steel is so sexy.
