Hi Guys. After testing the waters with Fallkniven, I am looking to purchase a special one to use as my main general purpose camp/ buchcraft knife with occasional hunting use.

As I have experience with and am thrilled with the F1 VG10 I am really considering the limited edition F13GLM, but I am concerned about 3G steel being too brittle for bushcraft tasks, as we have allot of hardwood trees and shrubs here in Australia- For example I used a U4 to make a spoon out of wet wild cane and was astonished when it chipped quite badly! This has concerned me as to how 3G steel (or SGPS) will hold up to use on hardwoods here in Australia. I have since been lead to believe 3G steel is best for hunting and slicing applications and not harder bushcraft tasks (at least in my environment), where VG10 seems to shine.

For these reasons I am worried about spending the money on a F13GLM or TK2 as they both use 3G steel. This has lead me to consider the NL5-Idun. If you had to categorise the NL5-Idun and the F1, from reviews the NL5 Idun it is more of a hunting/ slicing knife; while the F1 being a survival knife is more bushcraft focused. One could be lead to believe from its survival knife status and beefier blade profile that F1 therefore, while not as good a slicer as Idun is stronger. However, I noticed that Idun's blade is thicker than F1's at least at the spine! (Idun=5mm; F1=4.5mm). My rational is that if Idun is a better slicer than F1, yet it is also thicker than F1 (at least at the spine), it offers not only practicality for general camp chores but possibly similar strength, not to mention long term character and beauty.

The TK2 on the other hand being a utility knife of pure form follows function design is in many ways the ultimate outdoors mans knife, as supported by Japanese knife enthusiast "Virtuoice's" reviews on you tube.

If anyone has any suggestions for me with regards to how 3G steel will hold up to bushcraft tasks; and in helping me decide between these three knives it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
