The tile says it all.
I'm looking for a new fixed blade. What would be the best choice between a Fallkniven Frej (laminated VG10) and a SOG Team Leader (Duratech 20cv). Both are about the same size and price. The knife will be used for hiking, fishing, camping and food prep (when hiking/fishing/camping).

I want a good all around knife that will perform well in different conditions (dry/wet, summer/winter with snow) and that is stainless enough to not rust if not cleaned for the day.

Thanks for your opinons. I love this forum!

Strepto,

Go for the Fallkniven.
I've had an F1 (gave to my daughter for her outdoor stuff), and have an A1 on the way (after watching Noss's destruction tests at "knifetests dot com").
I would recommend that you go to his site and check out the tests done on different types of knives before you make a decision.

As usual, just my $.02
Cheers.
Dave

Go for the Fallkniven.

Any experience with the SOG, or it's duratech steel? Is this a comparison, or just the knife you like?

I'm always curious why people select one over another. Joe

Anyone have any experience with 20CV?

On paper that steel looks pretty nice! I might give it a try!

The link was to a three year old thread. Does any body have any real life experience with the SOG Team Leader in 20CV? I have thought about that knife, but I would like to hear from someone who as actually used that knife.

I'd buy the Fallkniven cause my kid likes it.

(She's 16 and has good taste, and thinks her daddy does whatever she wants..mostly.. ;) )

SOGs are nice but I love all the Fallknivens.
For that price i'd take the Fallkniven.
However i do like the look of the Team Leader.
Its too bad they don't make a less expensive SOG team leader in Aus-8.
Yeah i know they do but that version has those fr*ggen crazy saw teeth on the spine.
An Aus-8 version with a normal flat spine would make a nice woods/bush knife.

I have been looking at the TL for a while. I have a Fallkniven F-1 already but I am looking for a 5"er.

The TL is alot thinner than any Fallkniven. So right there the heft will be substantially less. If I get a 5" than I would want some heft for chopping power.

Fallknivens are just damn good knives. They work they last they are proven. The TL is unproven.

I would go with the Fallkniven S-1 which is next on my list.
