Just thought I would take a shot at reviewing this cool little knife. I have mine for about 2 months. I was going to trade it but have decided not to because it's a great little tool for Self Defense and other cutting chores. Well firstly I will start with the
Handle:
It is made out of some type of rubber and has a very "grippy" surface. The flats have small grooves in them while the sides are smooth. The handle is almost has the profile of a flower vase, but not as radical curves. There is a hole in the rear to facillitate a lanyard for extra retention during extreem use. The handle itself doesn't provide for too much in the way of hand protection on the guard side, but provides enough guard to prevent the hand from slipping off during stabbing, or thrusting in both forward or reverse grips. I'm not a knife fighter, but have taken training through my department on edge weapon survival, so don't take what I way as Professional Knowledge, but rather as a Professional's opinion.:) The handle is rather comfortable to hold and should appeal to persons with all size hands.

Blade:
The blade is made of VG-10, which some say is a "super steel" whatever that means. I guess that would refer to edge holding and corrosion resistance. The blade is a little over 3 1/2" long and is double edged with the bevels on all sides. The grind itself reminds me of the old Gerber Guardian Backup. It's raised in the center on both sides for the entire length of the blade and tapers off towards the tip. on one side near the handle reades the "Fallkniven" logo as well as "G1 and VG-10" within a small oval. The lettering is gold. The VG-10 blade is coated with some type of black teflon. After repeatedly removing and repling the knife in its sheath, I have found no wear on the finish. Only the high points of the grind have shiny areas from being rubbed against the inside of the sheath. Nothing that has given me any indication the finish will be worn through at all. This should help tremendously in corrosion resistance, and glare reduction (who really cares about glare reduction?). If you pull a knife on someone to use as a weapon do you think they will care about the glare coming off the blade? I don't think so. I am not looking at this from a Military combat CQB perspective, but I wouldn't use this knife for that purpose anyway. That's what they make Assault rifles, High power flashlights, Pepper Spray or fog bombs, and ground burst simulators for. If you are looking to bring a knife to a gunfight you are a fool. I would want something with at least a 7-10" blade for any serious operation, and it would be for utility anyway. Combat as a last resort. Black blades IMHO are only useful when it comes to corrosion resistance and lubricity with concearn to sheath mechanics. Overall, a nice little blade that should lend itself well to opening letters, cutting open MRE packages, cutting 550 cord, or whatever you knife nuts out there use your knives for. I'm sure you could cut someone in a fight with this knife, but history shows (9-11-2001), a fighting knife is not needed to fight if you are trained. The only thing I would caution is this is a double edged knife and you should check with your local laws concearning the carry and or concealment of such a tool. I have not had any time to evaluate the blade on edge holding because I just decided I am going to keep it as a user instead of part of my unused collection. Today is the first day I am actually carrying it at work. From prior reviews of VG-10 I am sure this blade and edge will hold up to lots of use.
Sheath:
The sheath is made of either concealex or kydex, I'm not sure which. It is very well made and fits the knife like a glove. There is no blade movement in the sheath. There are holes for neck cord attachment (included), and a slot on the long side for whatever other type of attachment you may come up with. I am not sure if Fallkniven will make a removeable pants clip or something for attachment to this slot, but you as the owner with some skill could manufacture something. The box had the style of sheath printed on the side, but there was another unchecked block that said belt sheath. Maby for the near future. I am of medium stature and I find the size and weight of this package easy to carry. It is unobtrusive and easy to get to.
Conclusion:
For purposes other than it's intended use or design, I guess this knife is good for all sorts of tasks. I will not be fighting with it, rather using it for EDC stuff. I am carrying as an EDC on and off duty right now. It's nice to know that there will be a fresh edge to use if I dull one up in the field or wherever I may be. I would definately reccomend this knife to anyone in search of a good user. At under $80.00 it's a great value. Go get one.
