Saving up for super steel stainless bushcraft blade.

I've used a buddies F1 in 3g.

Blown away.

That's some sharp stuff.

Would Elmax perform better?

Elmax is a great steel and performs well and takes a good edge depending on the heat treat. 3G blew me out of the water with its edge and its relative ease of sharpening. You might take a look at the PHK MODEL by Fallkniven. I love my h1, especially since I made a.New handle of mahogany, but the phk size and shape fulfilled my needs better. In the end I sold.my phk so I could get the volcano. I think you would be happy with any knife made by Fallkniven or BRK&T so I think which ever is most appealing to you is the way to go. Good luck

Dude, awesome. Any pics?

The PHK is rad but its too beaucoup for my needs.

Would you say Elmax is the US equivalent to 3g?

Thanks for the response

I wouldn't say equivalent I like them both but I'll take a Fallkniven with 3g as first choice. I also love the laminated cobalt steel in my volcano most of all. I'm a Fallkniven junkie so I'm jaded. Sorry no pics

Is that the CoS Lam. Steel? How is it? I've only used the vg 10 and the 3g.

The kolt knife looks cool for edc but not sure about the steel.

Thanks for the info

I have the Kolt in CoS laminated steel.
As with any steel from Fällkniven, it works to meet very high standards.
I have used mine hard at work and sometimes accidentally cut into nails and concrete.
Of course this kind of use cause damage to the edge, but it's easy to restore back to shaving sharp

Mine is rehandled in Stag and the tine tip was used for a matching firesteel.
The sheat is from JRE Industries.

Mikael

Yes the lam CoS steel is phenomenal stuff. It takes a laser like edge and stropping only enhances it. Ever since I got the volcano most of my other large knives have been sold off. It holds the edge for a considerable amount of time and is not hard to bring back after some heavy use. The kolt is a great size for edc, I just liked the juni better because I usually carry a 4"+ folder also. Sheeple usually refer to the juni as cute so it's generally what I pull out in public. There are a lot of great, smaller knives out there , I am just hooked on the Fallkniven' s looks and the steels they use. Happy hunting and good luck

Mikeal, wow, I love your setup. How much for the rehandle?

And thanks again Jfk.

I've been researching more into the kk. Might be my next knife. I'm gonna check it out in person to see if it fits my bear paws.

I can't seem to get away from fallkniven knives. Great steel is hard to beat.

Im just really curious about Bark rivers performance against a Fallkniven.

The trick with Stag handles, is to find the right piece of antler.
I was lucky in getting a handful of premium tapers from a Scottish source.
Today they are sold-out on Sambar tapers, but I got that piece for £10 + shipping!!!
The spacermaterial and nickelsilver plate + pins was around $25.
Add to that the epoxy and cottonfiber filler.
The cottonfiber is used to make the epoxy lighter and tougher.

Keeping costs down, I did the rehandle work myself and it wasn't too hard, as the taper had almost no pith in the center.
That meant I could use the original slim bolster, without visible pith.

I like Bark River very much and I use both brands.
As I resharpen my BR's and FK's, they tend to end up with similiar geometry.
This makes both brands work very well for my needs.
The main difference is in the steels, as BR often use A2 carbon toolsteel and FK use laminated stainless.
BR also prefer a thinner, higher convex grind for better slicing.
FK uses a slightly thicker convex edge, on a FFG blade.

Impressive work my friend.

I'm still learning how to put handles on knives.

Your work looks like perfection.

Does the tang on the kk follow the handle contour? Or is it similar to the stick tangs on other Nordic knives?

Thanks, DbH!
The tang runs parallell to the end, where it curves down into a blunt point.
