I recently purchased a second hand IDUN form another forum..I have since ordered a sheath for it...that should be here soon...I think that it looks like one heck of a knife..I have always thought that Fallkniven makes some of the best knives in the market..but this one really performs. It have done some light carving with it, and I really like it. Sorry, no pics of me using it..maybe later this week..but I am just wondering why I have never seen much about this model. I feel it is one of Fallknivens best! Gene

Gene, congrats! I'm jealous as hell! I've wanted one for quite a while, but no way I can afford it right now. Yeah...lots of pics will help ease the pain! :D -Matt-

I have one and love mine. It does not get the field time some of my other knives do but it is a great hunting knife. Funny but mine came from Fallkniven not that sharp. My first semi-dull Fallkniven out of 5 or 6 I have bought new. I almost sent it back but after a few minutes on a diamond hone it was a curved razor.
Who made your new sheath? I am not crazy about the factory model sheath. I like the carving on the front but the design seems kinda........well..........dumb.

I don't have one but I've often admired that whole series of leather stacked knife. I'm not sure why they don't get too much notice on the forums. For one, they have been around for a while and the forums tend to get buzzed on the new rather than the old. Secondly, they are relatively expensive (although not prohibitively so by most peoples standards) and many people looking to spend between $250 and $300 on a knife tend to opt for one the the buzzy new things out there.

I'd love to read about your full report and see some pictures of it in action!

I have had mine for about 3 or 4 months...at first I was under-impressed and considered selling it. It was different than what I had expected from the photos, but after using it on a fishing trip in May I started changing my mind. Now I've come full circle and really like it. I would have to say the sheath seems to be lacking something for a knife in this quality range...I decided to make my own and never used the one that came with the knife. The blade grind quality was exceptionally good, as perfectly symmetrical as could be, not something I find all that often, but I know I'm being fussy and realize the manufacturers can't spend as much time as I can fooling with each blade. The grind profile is pure slicer. It's a keeper for me and I think you will enjoy it.

It looks like a nice blade.

it also looks the the F-1 with a leather handle. True ?

.

The blade is a little different..more of a spearpoint, and a bit wider IIRC the F-1. And the handle is WAY better! Gene

I bought one, used it for a while and sold it. The sheath is cr@p for a knife that I payed that much for. I also found the edge thicker than I like. You will find that a sharp Mora will out-cut it in the woodcraft department. Otherwise it's beautiful and will make a good hunting knife!

I guess it probably because, from a pratical point of view they are not better than the much cheaper plastic handle versions (at least that's what most potential buyers assume), while being significantly more expensive.
And those are, from a general point of view too expensive too.

I have one, along with all the other Northern Light models except for the damascus Idun. I absolutely love it and its my go to knife for nearly everything, if the Idun wont cut it, the Odin or Tor will ;)

Is this it? It looks really nice!

I love all those Fallkniven Northern lights series knives!
Especially the Idun and Thor.
They are just completely out of my price range!
Might try a Fallkniven F1 blade blank sometime though.
The thing is i right now am totally happy with my little Enzo!

If i ever swing back from axe/hatchets to large blades i'll definitely try to raise the funds to get a Thor.
That is the sweetest BIG knife i've seen in a long time!

I have a bone to pic with the MOra cutting better speal...I tried to use one today and had to go back to my Wood Jewel. I am using ALOT of scandi grind puukko's at work..I have to cope a bunch of railings into round columns..no power tools work as well as a chisel and knife. Just throwing this out there...I am having great luck with my Javenpaa edge..it is holding up really well, and my Wood Jewel is great..my carbon Mora didnt hold a candle. I think it will stay in the trunk as a back up from now on...JMHO.

which Jarvenpa and wood jewel ya usein?
been lookin at those for a while.
be safe... Ted

I have both the large woodcarver. and the large bushcraft Jewel, and the Javenpaa is my first puukko..just a 4" blade and birch handle..but also one of the best cutters I own. Gene

The mora cuts wood better than the idun. I'm only comparing the mora and the idun, not other scandi blades.

Jarvenpa make some outstanding blades. One of the first knives I got when I was a kid was a Jarvenpa Scout knife and I still have it today. I really abuses it but it still sharpens easy and cuts very well.

My favorite wood carving knife is a pouko called the Grandma. I forget the make but the ragweed forge website lists them. I don't use it for outdoors at all and I keep it with my carpentry tools. Without handling it you wouldn't think much of it and I wouldn't have known how good of a wood carver it is had some one not given it to me. Its just great wood knife.
