Fallkniven NL1 and San Mai Trailmaster

Altho the knives look similar there are differences.
They have different steel in the blades, the NL-1 is a bit longer and a bit thinner.

thanks for the reply.

How did you find out what steel goes into cold steels san mai? they don't specify what steel they use and as far as I know is made up of whatever steels they happen to be using. As for dimensions, different sites give different sizes but none vary to a great degree.

I know that both companys have their knives manufactured in japan, possibly from the same factory?

I remembered having read in a magazine some time or another that Cold Steel's San Mai is made up of Aus8 with 420-j sides. Who knows, maybe they have changed it since.
The meassurements, I found on Fallkniven and Cold Steels webpages, and I do have a cold steel Trailmaster and it meassures 9.5 Inches as it says on the webpage. And it it is almost a mm thicker than the 7mm of the NL1.

I did a search here on Bladeforums and came up with a bit different information about what the san mai was made up of, so maybe you are right and they change it every now and then.

The San Mai Trailmaster has a core of AUS8A and side layers of 420J2.

back to knives; fallkniven took alot basic designs from CS who took classic designs and made a simplified commercial look. I am starting to switch over to Fallkniven.
