Does anyone have any info on this knife and Fallkniven folders in general.I know theyre overpriced, but how is the quality and performance compared to other major knife companies(Spyderco and Benchmade).I love the looks of this PC model!

I have a few fallkniven folders.Very good fit and finish, good steel.I love laminated blades.

I don't have a PC, or any of the liner locks. I have three lock backs. They are well made. The stand out features are top quality material & top design. The material quality is equal to the best Spyderco can put out. The big difference is design. I'm not saying one is better than the other, it is a personal thing, like the cut of a shirt or the feel of a shoe. The Fallkys feel better in my hand than any Spydie.
Fallkniven do have a much better blade:handle ratio. One thing that bugs me about Spyderco is the cutting edge is relatively short for the handle. That's not always negative, but for pocket carry it matters to me. Here is a pick of mine with a Delica 4. Similar cutting edge, much more handle on the Delica.

I have a Fallkniven P with 3G steel, HRC 62. It is a very fine knife, think Wm. Henry for smoothness, but slightly thicker and definitely stronger. Made in Japan by Hattori i believe. Not 'over priced' relative to what else the same money could buy you.
I very much doubt anyone would be disappointed by this knife. That said i do not know how the "P" differs from the "PC", but i think all of the Fallkniven knives are very high quality.

i don't really believe the fällkniven to be overpriced either... unless of course you get some tre kronor special edition. ;)

The Fallkniven Folders are all made by Moki in Japan. They also make the current Al Mar folders and some if not all William Henrys.
Considered arguably the best Folder maker in Seki. Hattori makes all the Fallkniven fixed blades.
As for them being "overpriced" I tend to think "very expensive" might be a more accurate
term because "overpriced" is subjective and varies from person to person.

How timely, a PC just landed in my mailbox yesterday. I bought it to replace my Spyderco Native 5 as an EDC work knife. The N5 has been great, but I wanted something a bit lighter, with a different design.

I have a Fallkniven U2 I've owned for about 8 years. I'd heard so much about their laminated steel, I wanted to try it. That knife has seen a lot of use over the years, when it starts to dull a few swipes on a fine diamond stone followed by a few on a finer ceramic and it's as good as new. Holds an edge a long time. It's an outstanding blade for general use. The fit and finish is excellent, the knife has held up extremely well. I bought it because it was inexpensive and I wanted to give Fallkniven a try. I've kept it because it's a truly excellent small, simple knife.

The PC is another great knife. I think the fit and finish are superb. I've paid more for knives that are not put together as well. The sharpest knife out of the box I've owned. Not at all overpriced. I haven't had it for 24 hours, I'll post some pics and further thoughts later today or tomorrow.

Nick, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this knife. I've liked its pics in magazines, and it looks really well built.

I have a P folder in VG10 with a Micarta overlay. Workmanship is excellent. I don't have one of the new PC models, but Fallkniven folders are high quality.

Here are my thoughts on this knife after a couple days of use. I bought this knife to be my EDC at work. I'm a sheet metal fabricator, so I have a box full of tools, including many cutting tools, nearby. I need a good sharp knife for those mundane tasks we all perform on the job. Opening packages of hardware, cutting stretch wrap, food, whatever. I probably use my knife harder than an office worker, but if I need to to do extreme tasks I'll go to my toolbox for something more efficient. For example, if I need to cut a foot or two of common cardboard, I'll reach in my pocket. If I need to cut 20 feet of some industrial strength cardboard, I'll grab a utility knife or some heavy shears.

With those criteria established, I bought this knife, sight unseen. Fallkniven's laminated blades have already proven their worth in my U2. I would have sent the knife back, for credit, had my initial impressions been negative.

First off, the fit and finish of the knife is superb. Much better than $115 usually buys, as good as any factory made knife and better than most. All parts, metal and plastic, have crisp well defined edges, without being sharp or uncomfortable. Zero blade play in either direction. The liner lock engages perfectly, flush with the edge of the blade, so there is lots of room for wear. You can open the knife slow or fast, the lock falls into place precisely every time. The outer edges of the scales have a nice radius. The liners fit the scales perfectly. No gaps when held up to the light.

Fallkniven laminated blades are often criticized for an uneven lamination line. This one differs about .035" from side to side, which seems about average. No big deal to me, but only fair to mention.

The PC really strikes a nice balance between light weight and sturdiness. Not a survival knife, but nothing wimpy about it at all. Fallkniven excels at simple designs that feel great in your hand. You can get a good grip on it for heavier work, yet it feels great for precise, delicate tasks.

All in all, I'm really pleased with the PC. It has exceeded my expectations. Here are a few pics, sorry, the battery in my good camera was dead.

seems like a great knife, I like the blue one.Is this knife of better quality than spydercos made in japan or about same(maybe tyeyre made by same factory)....how does that steel hold the edge and is it hard to sharpen

Not the same factory. Fallkniven folders are made by Moki. Spyderco folders are made by G.Sakai.

The only Japanese Spyderco I own is a Sprint Run Rookie. It's one of my favorite knives, the quality is excellent. I would give the PC a slight edge in quality, nothing really significant.

As far as edge holding I consider Fallkniven laminated blades to be excellent, based on owning a U2 for years.

I don't consider any knife hard to sharpen. I'm an old school bench stone guy. I don't let my knives get really dull. I buy some that are. I suppose if you let it turn into a butter knife it would take some work, it's hard tough stuff. I sharpened a laminated Fallkniven that was really dull for a guy, close to needing a regrind. I used Crystolon coarse and medium to start, medium and fine diamond next, fine ceramic and finally black Arkansas. It was maybe a little more work than sharpening a D2 blade in the same condition.

Great review Nick, thanks for posting it! I can see one of these in my future, I just can't seem to make up my mind on handle color.

I don't own one but I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I've handled several 'kniven folders and like them. Very good folders IMO.

Quite a few Spydercos are made by Moki

Very well could be as I'm not familiar with all Spyderco models.
I was at the G.Sakai factory in June and there were boxes of Delicas and Enduras there. I believe the dragonfly
is made there as well. Can you tell me which models are made by Moki so I can look them up? Thanks.

How is the edge holding on this blade? Is the steel the same as on the U2?

So far, so good. The PC is laminated Cobalt Special Steel, rated at 60RC, the U2 is Super Gold Powder Steel, rated at 62RC. The CoS is supposed to be a newer version, similar characteristics but more resistant to chipping. Maybe one of our members with more knowledge of metallurgy can reveal more.

I've had the PC for three days. I haven't done extensive testing. I put it in my pocket and use it as I would any knife, a little more use because it's new. I'll try to remember to bump this thread in a few months when the knife has some miles on it.

Thanks, Kiteman. I don't post a lot, but I've learned a lot since I joined. It was really freaky that I came here to start a thread on this knife and someone just had.

I like all the colors except the orange. I narrowed it down to gray or green and flipped a coin. Seriously.
